Lol, if you are feeling hungry, feel free to eat before the start, it will not affect your game. Sometimes I don't have time to eat before, but then I eat while I'm playing.. Anyway, there is no need to be hungry.
I think OP question was about what to eat if you willing to play long in tournament like deep stack non-turbo one. Solid food then is welcome and some drinks, still after one hour there will be break so you can eat something

I think a well rounded meal that is healthy and with low glycemic food is the best option. Also drink healthy fluids such as water. Keep a home made smoothie for the tournament or ring game.
eat a relatively large breakfast or lunch a few hours before the tourney starts. dont eat much else throughout the day. maybe a light snack to calm your hunger. Being full causes you to become complacent and slower. being hungry makes u sharper and more alert. pretty sure theres some evolutionary and biological facts to back this up lol.
If it`s a long tournament,don`t eat. It will give you something to do,,during those dead card lulls that inevitably happen in long tournys,,i find it keeps me from playing hands i should`t,if you keep yourself somewhat busy(i mostly change diapers lol) But find your own things
I don't like to eat too much before playing poker. I don't want to be starving but I don't want to down a huge dinner before a game. It would make me want to sleep. I eat light and I think playing tourneys helps me lose weight. I'll have to write a lose weight by playing poker book!
