What are the typical standards for moving up stakes in SnGs? 20buyins? 30buyins? More even?

Some would say 100 buyins which would allow for any swings, but just go with what you can afford to lose..

I would happily move up with 50 buy-ins for 9man S&Gs, especially standard speed. Only the worst of downswings would see that kind of BRM get ruined.

it all depends on your skill level and style of play. dont try and move up too fast, it usually ends in tears.

I would suggest about 100bb, then try to have shot at higher stakes
if everything fails, you can always go back to lower level and regroup and hit it again
if you have good BRM, then why not to move up the game

anyway, gl

always play the level which u r comfortable to loose . I mean when u are ready to loose your 100 bucks then only you can play freely and aggresively... rem without fear , if you will play no worry about putting your stacks in the middle when you have the cards, then your opponent ll be scared ...

If you have played a certain level of buyins well , and have the br to move up then do it . I would say 50 buyins is gd , n play aggressive in those up buyins , dont be scared by seeing the buyins levels, just play freely. if you will go on a downswing ans loose 25 buyins , then drop down to play lower ones again.
Remember when you are winning , play the hig limit , but when you are loosing drop down to play low limit. In that way you will adjust to both of your swings. cos when luck comes to us , it comes smilling all the way. so we should take advantage of it

I would say it also all depends on what you're playing for. Are you playing for fun? Are you playing for profit? Do you make a living playing poker? If it's all for fun (unprotected) then you wouldn't mind splashing around but 100' beebs would be good if you're playing seriously (protected). If playing as a pro/living, 200 Beebs is on the chart.

SnG 65 Entries 45 Entries 20 Entries

Well I definitely consider myself a serious player I have two toddlers so I can only fit a good MTT and maybe a SnG or two if the day wasn't that eventful into my grind

it all depends on your skill level and style of play. dont try and move up too fast, it usually ends in tears.

And its not that I'm in a hurry to move up I am wondering when it would be most profitable for me and I'd consider myself a fairly good STT/MTTist averaging a top 28% finishing

Most wouldn't consider this ^ to be 'serious'. Serious SNG grinders would likely consider 50games/day to be recreational.

As you move up in buyin levels the players (on average) tend to be better (especially the regulars). It is more difficult to run with a high ROI at higher buyin levels than it would be in micro &/or low buyin levels.

As others have mentioned, ~50 buyins for SNG's, & at least 100 for MTT's (< more if you're playing larger field tourneys regularly).

If you want to discover what would be most profitable for you 'it depends'.

I used to play mostly low stakes poker, so I worked my smaller BR like this.

If I was mainly playing $45 SNG's with a $1 buy in and a $14 top prize, then it would make sense that my BR for these would only be $14. If I failed to get ITM 14 times in a row my BR would be gone. :(

If I funded myself $15 worth of games with a max prize payout of $14 then I'd be going in wrong direction. There are many other schools of thought dealing with slumps/tilts/etc, but this is my way for low stakes.

With conservative and non experimental play this could build.

Unsure how that translates into how your BR works (perhaps larger), but I think you must consider the buy in vs the prizes in the tourneys you aim at and your success percentage as calculated by various websites. i.e. I'm in the money at least 12% of my games.

I'll go with mixing in a few bigger games with your normal game. Do NOT lose track of your normal game. Increase the percentage of bigger games with each success. With some rungood, pretty soon, your new normal game will be the bigger one.

each player has their own winning formula. some guys like to have 100 buy ins. some 200 and some 15. it all comes down to how good you are and the kind of swings u usually go on.

Really? Because I was told it doesn't matter how good you are that even the very best players can experience some pretty big downswings in Sit'nGoes and this is why they suggest you have around 50 buyins for them.
It was said to me that even if you were Phil Ivey himself if you did not use bankroll management you will end up going broke.

I like this advice. I'm not sure if it's right or not but it sounds cool. :)

I prefer the 100 buy-in because I play [360,90] Turbo STT where the variance is higher. With fewer people (2,9,18) 75 BI should be enough in case of a drop can go back to the previous rate.

please please please be as conservative as possible, any time you move up the game changes and if you struggle you want to be able to comfortably move back down without tilting. the more BI's the better.

I resonate with the post that said "it depends why you are playing" pro vs serious vs fun

My BRM would probably seem horrible to some of you, but I play for fun....I take it very seriously and want to do well, but fun is my major goal. I have a good job that I won't be quitting any time soon...I can afford to lose and wipe out my bankroll and start over.

The interesting thing about that is that mindset allows me to win with a smaller bankroll because I'm just not scared money...If there is an interesting or good tourney coming up that I want to play and it is a little higher than my normal game, I'll just pass on a couple smaller games and play the bigger one because it interests me...maybe the location is better or new, maybe I have friends in that town etc. Sometimes for MTT I go as low as 40 buy ins...but it works for me and I cash about 25% of the time in MTT and 38% of the time in the STTs
