It's a micro stake online MTT with a field of about 90 players. Payouts were to top 9 places. Last 12 players were remaining and there were 7 players on my table. I was the short stack sitting with about 4.5 BBs and average stack was about 25BBs. I get dealt A8s UTG. I decide to shove and got a caller with 77 and lost the hand and was out. Did I make the right play?Consider that I was just 3 spots away from the payouts. It was my BB next hand so my stack was gonna reduce to only 3 BBs. Levels were of 6 minutes regular type. All opinions welcomed. Try to answer in detail.

A shove was warranted in this situation. Honestly I would have tried to do so far before getting down to 4.5 BBs. I think the real question here is what exactly you are going for, trying to cash or trying to win? I personally am more interested in making a deep run than simply getting my money back, this may potentially cost me a bit in the long run because I do end up bubbling some times due to trying to make moves while others are laying back waiting for the money, but hey, go big or go home right... Could you have potentially folded and then some how snuck into the money? Yes, but others are likely waiting for the bubble as well so with such a short stack I don't find it likely. Where there others lower than you in chips on the other table because that affects your odds of sneaking in as well.
I would say unless the tourney is one where all places payed get the same prize, like a satellite or something, then you have to make this play 100% of the time, and even in a satellite tourney I'd still do it 9 times out of 10, unless I was really confident the other small stacks were in worse of a spot than I.

If not Utg , late position n no 1 call in front of u , jam was fine ! But Utg ,
Even Other Player Without poket pair ,
Still have many ace x hands a9 ~ak !
I think > aq jam atleast. If I play fold all hands only jam kk aa !
Unless know can't cash without win a hand !
I always fold JJ qq in this spot !
I'm not kidding ,show u some pictures when almost cash ! I play this way ,have 80% can cash !n Everyweek
I can cash 55~ 70 times ,on top of MTT leaderboard
Also if other Player are aggressive n loose ,it's easy fold ,wait they fight each other …

Must shove situation. If you fold there you have 2 BB after the blinds pass you. You were in a flip which is also just fine considering a caller might have easily had A9+. Better luck next time!

if you want to hopefully win your buy in back then by all means fold your hand and run the clock.
If you want to win,
*** no detail needed because I'll leave the rest up to your imagination

Definately a good shove . I probably would've gone sooner with less of a hand . You can't sit and blind out waiting for a monster . Take your shot with any 2 decent cards .

This is a table pounding shove. If you dont shove this hand- next hand you can shove a Ken Griffey Jr and a Uno card with your 3bbs.

It depends a lot on the position and with the cards that you think will double. Stop it and double it!

That's a shove w/out a second of hesitation. 4.5bb's with 3 spots away.. You KNOW people are going to stall and fold and you'll just get blinded down anyway so why not take a shot? Ace anything....shove. King anything....shove...Q9 through QJ....shove. Any pair...shove. Any mid to high suited connectors....shove. Any connectors 67 and higher...shove. You're desperate. You can't be picky.
