I've just completed my 1000th online tournament over the last 1.5 years.
I've invested $7366
Cashed $11,721

My average finish was 14.63% of the field. Or 15th/100 players if you will. And this ks against the weakest of players. $1 to $16 buy-ins. Seems like I'd need to be investing $160k each year, cashing $200k, and only making $40k profit/year. That's insane. I can't Multi table at all, since one of my biggest strengths is spotting betting patterns, and that's too difficult for me when I have more than 2 tables going. So I just stick with 1 tournament at a time.

How good does someone actually have to be? I don't see how someone, no matter their skill, can expect to finish top 7% on average, which is what I'm guessing is required in order to start building a decent bankroll.

My question is this: What % does a person have to finish in for Poker tournaments to be a viable source of income? Average top 10%??
