How do you react to big bets as opposed to smaller bets?

This sometimes gets hard to deal with,

in general a weak bet can often mean a weak hand but on the contrast
a big bet is also a sign of weakness,
trying to take down the hand.

I mean do you call an aggressive bad player on the river after he has played his hand badly and overbets the river based on it making no sense to the board etc do you call if you hold top pair,

again if on the flop or turn he puts in an overbet what percentage of the time do you re-raise

say the board is a back draw flush and you hold Ax broad, he overbets the flop, 800 into a 820 pot

If he has it why overbet? their is no flush draw to protect against or straight draw out their
what percentage of the time would you fold to that kinda fishy bet.

and in general how do you react to a pot size bet on the turn after you float the flop...
given a variance of hands, will you ever continue in that pot with drawing hands, outs, or a peice of the board...

cheers guys just interested to hear your views :)

my opinion is it is player dependent. I guess I would want to see the villain over bet the pot with either the nuts or as a bluff and work from there. Same with small bets. Is the bet sizing just way off? Is he super passive and just scared to bet? I would definitely call smaller bets first just to get info. The bigger bets are harder, that's why I would want to see a hand go to show down against someone else. Let someone else pay so you can get information. Does this make sense?

yea makes sense, like also if I have any kind of indication I will re-raise if this player is super aggro and I've folded twice or 3 times on this table recently on the flop and he's making a large bet its more likely he wants to get me off the pot,
So in this case I can re-raise the flop with a range of hands, Ax broad, draws and even back door draws/overcards.

also something I haven't been doing too often lately is taking showdown information,
I might start doing alot of notes on this and also taking into consideration my exposed hands at showdown and note how I played that hand

Poker is way too player/situation dependent to answer a general question like this. It depends on a number of things.

Yea I'm aware it depends on the table dynamics and what spots we are in.

Im more focused on how often we will re-raise as stated,

for example : is this something you rely heavily on in your game being able to re-raise tricky or laggy players or are you more likely to avoid these guys and not mix it up with the lags.

like for me I will avoid this in turbo sit n go's and play conservitive look for good steal spots later on,
but with deeper stacks tournaments and in cash I am keen to target lags because I feel it will improve my game long term
anything your uncomfortable with I feel you should focus on doing until it becomes second nature

any input in this is a good contribution : )

i dont use hud or any other program. But the size of the raise depends of a player and position. Sometimes call small bet just to bluff the last 2 streets :) I like bet bigger on flop when you are strong and bet smaller with mid pairs and FD and gutshot

Depends of the situation, stack size, position, type of opponent. Other thing is that you have to recognize your opponent betting pattern. And sometimes if your opponent bets small and you think you have a bigger hand it´s a nice chance to make a cheap call to see his hand.
