How do u guys make decisions online?
I feel i cant take my time to think everything threw so allot of info
to think about when the pressure is on.
I have been playing for 5 years or so,so its not the pressure, but when im in the hand i dont know what to think of(mind go's blank).I only feel i want to fold or call and i make some calls when i know i should fold:(When i replay
the hand i know more less to make my decision no time running out and no pressure

I think of ranges pre,but to guess post flop ranges i'm stuck on.how do evaluate
the flop.turn and river ranges
I also have the habit to think i have to bet fast if i bluff or weak(know it's wrong but i still do it).so i think it's a tell if i bet slow that i have a hand when i think to long.
How long do u take or does it not matter?do u bet the same pace?
What do u think about post flop??
thanks

Well, you should be thinking of your outs and pot odds as well as the villains hand range. Maybe read a book on poker math

It's definately hard at first :/ . Just play less tables and keep on practicing. The more you think during a game, the better player you'll become. Also, note all close decisions your made during your play, and review them afterwards.

things to try and find out,
what is he calling the flop with, what does he float a c-bet with?, does he bet strong with top pair or check a strong flop? Doe he understand position and adapt his range accordingly by that I mean is he tighter from early and wide from late? Does he check call his draws and re raise only made hands?

If you cant see exposed whole cards re visit the hand action in pots he has lost so for example if the board was Q-J-8 and he called 3x OOP then check folds.
He prob has to wide a calling range so he would be too passive, as this connects with most peoples calling range, and any Ace high hands would often continue.

so for this particular opponent you can pretty much steal more pots and put pressure on them until you are given a reason not too

So... what really helps in poker is building a nice little memory palace and put in all the outs and opponent's possible hands, also put in there the opponent's style of play. I assume (and correct me if I'm wrong) that you have such problems outside of poker too, so this will help with that too. With that in mind, you'll be able to make the right call (or raise/folde :) ) in a split second. But even if you do, you might want to take a good long 10 seconds before acting (bluffing or not) to put the opponent at edge or make him think you're uncertain. I hope I helped you to some extend. :)

A memory palace is not a practical tool for aiding the sort of short term memory needed for playing a specific hand of poker.

I started a thread on checklists so I could find out what considerations people had when assessing a hand. I find my own decisions easier if I have an outcome in mind up front. The outcome will be influenced by position, player styles, stack sizes etc. Then each phase of play either builds on / eliminates that outcome or presents a new one.

As a novice it would be nice to have a flow chart to help with decision making. But in reality there is so much information you've got to make the decision based on rapid assessments that happen out of conscious awareness and arrive as intuitions. Intuitions get better as skills develop.

You say that you are fine when there is no clock so you are probably filling too much of your awareness with the clock. Having a specific decision making process - with prioritised decision points - rather than waiting for the gut feel to arrive may help. You can evolve this consciously and when it becomes routine it will settle back into unconscious awareness.

Behaviours tend to be context dependent so you could identify a context in which you make a decision under pressure easily and mentally review instances of yourself making a series of those decisions successfully then look for what you do that makes those decisions so comparably effortless.

Each tournament, each hand, each situation are different. The best way to think best is to concentrate on the game you are playing. In my particular case playing several tables while watching TV. From that I do not do more my results improved significantly.

We have to agree to disagree, but surely we are on the same page that it won't hurt and trying it is like playing a freeroll - you're not risking anything, but have a chance to win.

Hey Desmond 44. I use memory palaces a lot for other reasons and have thought about it in this context. Can you give some more details on how you have implemented this successfully? Cheers mate

Many times it was useful for me - to hear your instincts.

I'm curious as to how often you find yourself having a hard time making a decision? If it's during particularly tough situations, then you're in a big club! If it's many hands, then consider how you'll play the flop before you act pre-flop so that you have more time to act.

Also, have you given any thought to trying any of the poker HUD software? While it doesn't make your decisions for you, it certainly can help to put your opponents play into perspective.

There are several decent programs out there including Poker Tracker 4 which I use. It helps to identify strong and weak players, and gives you information as to how they normally play: weak, tight, etc.

Hope this helps...

Simply avoid making really tough decisions before you got sufficient notes, reads and observations on your opponents. That could mean exercising a lot of pot control, getting sub-par value from situations of sheer strenght and insta-folding TPTK/good draws when the villain bets into you out of position (even if he's a pretty bad player). By learning your opponent's tendencies, your thinking forward will come much more naturally, much better than "what to do now", is "what will I do if this guy does this, or the flop comes like this".

Not always focus on their game, counting outs, the analysis can not beat is always useful. Tournaments are all different, opponents also individual. Play fewer tables, focusing on specific tournaments and trust your instincts. Intuition is a powerful tool in the hands of professionals.

I have a little list i wrote on a notecard of questions i should be asking when Deciding to go in hands and what questions i should be asking through out the hand. I only use this now when i statt to notice im getting away from my gameplan or if im tired. I use it to refocus my mind.but its a tool that worked for me.
