How do you keep your cool while your playing poker? to not have sweats , heart beats faster when playing online or event live events ?

When i play local texas holdem tournaments i tend to get really nervous when I'm head to head or even at a final table . this happens to me around the bubble too.. My hands start to sweat, my whole body seems to be really shaky, my heart pounds faster than normal. But the feeling passes when i win a very big pot , but my hands still get sweaty

So basically i think i get nervous of losing? or winning?? how can i maintain this??

The better you understand preflop hand ranges and things, the less you start to stress over what happens because you already have a good feel of how to play when situations come up later.

Also, playing for a relatively small % of your bankroll at any one time is a good way to reduce the stress from each potential loss.

HAHAHA, when I was younger, I started to blush with quads of aces (five-card) just as a fire hydrant and everybody folded. The heart still goes faster, when it comes to higher winnings or high risk bluffs, but experience is the key, I guess. And as Super pawn mentioned, if you don't have risked a lot, there's no need to worry about, it's just another pokergame, at the beginning, at end of late reg, on the bubble and when you have reached the final table, I don't see any REASON AT ALL TO BE NERVOUS.:cool::cool:

I've been playing ACR for months now and I'll tell you, it's VERY hard to keep my cool when I keep seeing these ridiculous bad beats over and over. 4 cards to the straight, flopping full houses with garbage starting hands .. it's endless. Almost always the big stack taking out smaller stacks regardless of starting hands. Random? I think NOT!

That is probably the toughest question in poker. It's just like golf in a lot of ways. Most of it is in your head. Look at Patrick Reed in The Masters. That guy was leading the entire way down The Masters and kept telling himself to make the shot that he can do.

Same with poker in many ways, don't go out of your bankroll and don't make moves just because you have two great cards dealt to you. It doesn't mean that you're going to win the hand. We all know this and I think that is where your focus begins. When you can lay down AA when you know you're beaten by playing them wrong or you know that someone hit two pair, flush, straight, etc. That's when you can say, "I'm in the zone!"

I think that kind of adrenaline rush is one of many things that get us "hooked" in the beginning... but that also fades with more time, more experience, more practice. Like others, I'll say that if that feeling is STRESS you might be playing outside of your comfort level (bankroll.) Especially if you notice that feeling goes away after winning a pot... you could be under a lot of pressure and that can actually be an exploitable thing. :)

Wow, I miss those days. I hardly flinch at bad beats nowadays. Used to be kind of exciting when I had those type of reactions while I was playing. Guess what I'm saying is that you'll probably grow out of this when you have played for about ten years or maybe not. Everyone is different.

Experience is the main key to overcome that moment of rush, more you play, less stress you feel

Green tea with honey. That helped me a lot during live tournaments, specially while running deep. Might not be for everyone but give it a shot.

I’d say from my online experience I suffered with similar things not quite to your extent and what I found was you get more comfortable the more you find yourself in those situations just like anything else that pushes your comfort zone in day to day life I remember my first online game I must of joined and left the game about 3 times before i joined a game and got dumped straight onto a table I’d probs still being the same thing if it wasn’t for that

I used to be strictly live player and I used to get a rapid heart rate in big hands as well as the rush feeling. Especially late in the tournament. But the more you play and the more you gain experience this can fade due to just the fact you've been through it so many times.

In real money games if I get sucked out on, I just think this is a new hand and I can't go on tilt. I'm not gonna stoup to the level of going all in with whatever hand I get next. The good thing is if you get sucked out on bad, and the next hand you wake up with a monster you can shove with the image that your on tilt. Good way to get your chips right back and more! Experience ... the more often you survive anxious moments, the better you become at addressing them.

'Poker Face' is evasive and not easily mastered. Keep working on it ....

Chamomile tea is supposed to calm the nerves. U can make some ahead of time and put it in the fridge, in case you don't want to drink it hot.

I always play tournaments, that I can afford in the financial plan.
I actually never feel discomfort. I think, that is why I am getting a profit from the game.

I like having something else going on in the background while playing. Most often, I'll be watching TV at the same time. It distracts just enough to calm me down and keeps from taking each hand too seriously.

Hello.
First of all, a year ago, I installed a home air conditioner.
In addition, I have a daily money limit that I can afford to lose without consequences. Actually, this limit allows me to feel calm and not to be nervous.
Good luck.

i believe that with time the feeling will wear down. the more experience that you get the more you will get use to understanding whats going on and how the outcome might come out.

When one of us can answer this question, and most importantly will be able to cope with their emotions - we will play in the Premier League poker! I think that learning to keep their emotions very hard and this manages only a small number of players.

Try a nice cigar the nicotine really relaxes you. Cigars are not for everyone and smoking is a dangerous dirty habit....two maybe three nicotine patches work just as well.

I also have this problem when I am playing tournaments that matter to my life. I have like 6 forms of tilt which I am trying to correct.
