I look over my hand histories every day, take notes on tendencies of other players as a whole so I can be more sure about specific ranges when raised or reraised as a general rule of thumb. I also spend about an hour or so on pokerstove seeing how certain hands matchup against hand I have them on, ect. I also spend a lot of time reading books about poker, trying to find new ways to improve my game.

How do you guys study? Not sure if I'm being unproductive with my time or not.

review hands, look at and review hands on the forum, watch youtube videos, read books, just all sorts of stuff.. the thing that'll help you learn the most is just by continually playing and experiencing new scenarios you will continue to develop and get better.

I learn while i play. I pay close attention to psychology of players when it comes of amateur players. If there's a good player in the table i have to change strategy and begin thinking in a more matematical and methodologic way, and that's when i learn all the things that books say. But i believe that there's no better way of learning than in practice. Although it may be useful to read a book to gather some good knowledge, i don't find it productive at all. That's in my case, because i already tried it. Perhaps also depends on the book you try to read, i tried one of Daniel Negreanu and although it was helpful i advanced slowly.

I use an App on my phone similar to pokerstove. I do that for at least 20 mins per day (my breaks at work)

I watch pokertube videos at night after work a few nights per week. maybe 4 hours a week.

I am always reading 1 poker book....sometimes I am re-reading an oldie but a goodie. It may take me a month to read a 200 page poker book sometimes though....can tend to put me to sleep and I end up re-reading paragraphs over and over...

posting and replying to hand histories on cardschat

And I am part of a 3 person poker team/study club. We do essentially "book reports" about 4-5x per year and usually pick a theme to discuss like "heads up" or "short stack strategies" or "adjusting to player profiles" etc. These are invaluable in progressing my game. Just having a couple trusted people to talk shop with is priceless. Even if you don't always agree, just hearing the opinion of somebody else who's game you respect is VERY worthwhile.

I always try to play poker instead of reading books. I think practical practice is the best way to get better at online poker. I have also tried to get some advices at the internet but they are mostly so general that I can't use them at the tournement. I just tried some freerolls and learned a lot about the tournements. I have had a big lack of imagination regarding cash games till I played some of them, soon I got better and won some money.

PSO courses were too short and I didn't like how most of the "information" there was subjective/doubtful.

Discussing hands with friends seems to work best for me so far but soon I will start reading books as that has been effective in other areas.

I've stopped studying. and playing full time.
If anything I'm playing better.
3 top 100 finished in my last 3 mtt's ranging 2088-5789 runners

I'm playing more aggressive im more fearless,
and the more experienced the opponent is the harder a time I'm giving them because I know they are trying to squeeze in position, double float me Trap me and all kind of stuff... they wanna punish late raisers and boss the table

I honestly Think Unless your mass multi tabling most of the knowledge you need to know is the logic and the playing style of the opponent.
at least in tournament poker

If a player has lots of chips and is very active, he has alot of moves. and if he has alot of moves he has alot to lose most of the time

I use a cool app called Balanced to remind me to stay on course with poker and life things, and Everest to set and work toward poker goals.

To get better, I do the following:

-Study hand histories and take notes.
-Read...currently Positive Poker by Dr Tricia Cardner.
-Review hands from the Poker Coach Pro app, and\or InstaPoker.
-Watch and study Jonathan Little's Going Pro video series with student 1TimeJoker.

I also review hands on ShareMyPair, an app where amateurs and pros post and discuss poker hands- highly recommended due to the ability to interact directly with pro players, and sometimes they will even comment on your hands. Fossilman just posted a new hand a few mins ago, and Faraz Jaka just joined up to post.

I sit down. I eat Milano cookies. I breathe. I read. I play. I read. I play. I read. I read. I play. I play. I play. I play. I eat. I skip a class. I pray to Mother Nature. I read a little bit more. I kneel to Mother Nature. I read much more... Then I sleep, I meditate, I wake up, I defecate. Have breakfast, then stare at the TV for 10 minutes. Stop staring at the TV and do the child's pose. Go drink some Gatorade, for electrolytes, and then play poker again. Just repeat this easy to follow procedure and you'll be the greatest player in the world in no time.

I get the most value out of studying hand histories, either my own or those of pro players with commentary. While studying my own histories, I use Equilab to determine if a play made sense from a math perspective.

You may want to write a study plan based on your leaks or weaknesses, and try to work through it a little every day.

i think the key to studying is going to the right resource and asking the right person. its something i learned throughout the journey. When i first started i didnt know where to go or what to do, i think if you wanna focus on a certain subject, just look into who where you can get that knowledge that applies.
