I am curious if anyone has any tips on how to battle superfish. I actually find myself struggling more against these players because they greatly overvalue their hands and i find it very difficult to distinguish their hands between a mediocore and high value hands. They also bluff a lot too in like situations that make no sense. So what strategy should i implement in order to beat these players over long time. I consistently wait for decent hands and get it in good on the flop getting called often as a 60/40 favorite or better but there has to be a better way for me to make a lot of money off these types of player. It is a live sng usually 9 man if that helps anyone. Thank you

shove every hand

^ this guy xD

I'll say play very tight and play from position. Observe how he/she plays when they have a hand vs when they don't. Don't bluff. Don't cbet or 3bet to make them fold as you'll get called almost every time. Raise big when you have a hand.

"Superfish" - I've never heard that term before.

There is one and only one way to systematically beat these players. Don't play them. They're at freeroll and micro-stakes tables, so don't join in those games. Simple, easy to implement, guaranteed to work.

you say its a live 9man sng-i play alot live,i would suggest working on your live tells some-fish aka superfish are known for great tells, you can beat them succesfully ,if you work on yer game some-playing tight live might not do the trick-i would play position ,and look to trap, and bet agressively when i know im ahead-maybe your giving off a few tells yerself hard to say

Like said by others already and that is to play super tight against them. I will add that you should slow play and trap them. I find fish have a hard time reading a board or will not believe you have the flush or straight. They think everyone else is bluffing, because that is how poker is played and won.

It seems like a lot of people struggle with these players, i'm starting to think it's an emotional response from players who know that they are better players than the "superfish", but that's a story for another day.

These players you desribe play linear ranges, so they will get it in with hands that you would not suspect or would not get it in yourself with. So basically all you really have to do is to loosen your requirements to get your stack in, and don't be afraid to play in really big pots with hands you wouldn't normally.

If they are aggressive let them be the one betting and don't worry if you get outdrawn sometimes.

if they are the type that just calls all the time, bet and overbet the pot as a value bet you will get called by all sorts of hands.

Don't try and work out what hands they have, look more at betting patterns rather than them playing a certain hand in a certain way, they will change it up at the drop of a hat, betting patterns tend to be more solid. every player is differant but generally speaking big bets mean big hands, small bets mean bluffs, big preflop raises after limping and calling a lot generally mean big hands. But it's all subjective, keep an eye on what their betting patterns mean if at all possible.

But basically you want to get in as many pots with these guys as possible and let them do what they do, which is overplay their value hands, and bluff too much. You can just sit there all day picking them off over time. The cool thing is that once you have a dead read on a guy, you can just tear them apart all day long....

Interesting now do you think shoving with the best hand is always the move though. I feel like it is too much variance. I just find it frustrating to get it In with ak and lose to like 53. I deff will take more looks into tells have to focus harder

it's not always the move, but in lower games when players tend to be more passive overvalue betting and value betting in general is a really good idea. f you are not getting enough value from your hands you will actually be causing yourself more variance, quite happy to explain why if you are confused.

This is all general talk though, give a bunch of specific examples and i can give thoughts on them.

if you encounter the rare superfish, the best way to play is to either have position or a hand.... and value bet

you can also do amazing things with your bet sizing ie you can stab at a flop with like a 1/3 pot bet, or when you have the nuts you can bet 3/4 pot

the worst thing you can do is get it in preflop vs a super fish with a non premium hand

yep agree, but vs superfish you can pretty much just overbet the pot and they will call you off a lot. don't get constrained by the so called rules of poker in terms of betting.

i do exactly what you do, play very exploitably vs them, betting really small with nothing and value betting hard when i have it, as long as they dont know what im doing it's all gravy. But in terms of the 3/4 bet pot you can bet pot or 2x pot or whatever vs them if they have a hand they will call so if you are keeping it below pot you are just losing value.

Never bluff vs fish. Never raise pre-flop vs fish. Expand your range of hands.

Is it better to play only good hands? Like 10s to aces or suited or pockets. Patience is key?

The best strategy against fishes is play ABC Poker. Raise if you have nuts or close to it, or check/call waiting for them to bluff. Do NOT bluff because they will pay with bottom pair or Ace high. Fold if you catch nothing at flop.
