so i was in this exact spot in a tournament a few days ago only i had ATd...in that tournament i called and villain had AQo, kicked myself about it saying i knew i was dominated...now in this spot i folded only because of that last incident...there was like less than 60 ppl left, i had what like 10BB or so, i hesitated and was going to shove but stopped myself because of the last time...in any case, am i supposed to shove here or do i know im crushed? i mean the initial raiser ended up having queens but am i obligated to call here? thanks for any input

Unless you have reads that UTG is an absolute retard (that would raise A2o or fold to your shove) it's a fold. Giving him a range of like 88+ and AJ+ and presuming he never folds you have like 29.5% equity. You need like 44.6% equity to shove against UTG. This isn't even including the times when someone 4-bet shoves behind. My shoving range is probs something like 99+, AQ+ (although in game i probs just shove wider).

Dang man, pretty crappy. After Boston raised TheOutlaw he was pot committed so it didn't really matter what you did with your all-in. Just a brutal turn card for you, no way to see that coming. Pretty bad re-raise on his part with a 2 kicker tho.

ok aside from the percentages and shyt thats basically what my thought process was...sigh i hate those hands that could have changed the course of a tournament for u yet instead you make that hard right fold...oh well...thanks for the input tho

That's the thing; in that situation with the A10 you would likely lose a lot more than you would be winning so the correct move was a fold over the long term. Better to just look at your play instead of the result. Even though its a stinger when you flop a house.

I agree, regardless of how the hand went after, your fold was good.

I'm intrigued if you would of posted this hand, had the flop been as kind as it was? ;)

Stop being results originated and fold in this spot is more than fine, even if UTG is shoving wider, it's not the best spot to be trying to isoing with still a full table to act. You can find much better spots, so yeah its a fine fold.

bleh yea it was just annoying at the time..i've since come to terms with it..been playing as best as i can recently, trying not to let the suckouts get to me as much as they used to..even tho they still hurt its something i'm dealing with slowly...

This!!

I know it is a tough spot as our stack starts to demand desperation but you are better waiting to shove in with a marginal hand from an unopened button or cut-off or being able to get in with a hand like A 10 in the blinds over a button or SB raiser.

I prefer to think of it as looking for "spots" rather than "hands" and honestly this doesnt look like a very good spot to me.
