Would you say you get higher variance in sit n go double your money or in cash?

I find I just cannot consistently profit in cash, no matter how I play. Even when I make the right plays and considering correct calls/folds over the long term, there's always the one big suck out like kk v aa, k on river per session

Dym on the other hand, despite the odd suck out I can win more than I lose

DoNs have some of the lowest variance of all games. Especially plo...and limit games but ive never seen one. But low variance in a tourney is not totally a good thing either as it applies to your bankroll.
Maybe your game is better suited for tourneys and not cash. They are different in many ways

My game is far better suited to tournies, I agree

But sit n go's are just mini tournies really

Why is low variance not good? Doesn't it mean it's far more certain you'll make money, and you have more control?

In tournaments vs cash game of the same format...lets say NLH...variance differences lie in how many people are playing....so lower variance in tourneys with this in mind means when you do win you win less...thats all...but they are easier to win and you can play more in a day...so depends on what you want out of it...i say though that if you are gonna win why not win more

yes in a cash game, where as if you are running bad in one tournament-high variance can not cost you more money - so the only difference lies in how much you can win, and that is dictated by the number of people playing in the tournament, so smaller tournaments means smaller variance, means less $ (but if you consider your time money - which I do but many do not - then this can balance it out because smaller tourneys take less time)

I think low variance games are good for building a small bankroll, but once you have a sizeable bankroll, higher variance usually means higher winrate over the very long term also when your bankroll is big enough you can move down stakes a few times if you hit a downswing.

I agree, back in the hayday of the Cake Network, I built a huge part of my entire bankroll off of DON's when they first came out

How many BI do you think you should have for DoNs? Is 10 enough if you win 2/3 of the time?

I have different thoughts about bankrolls than most, believing that at any time you can have a bad enough run to deplete it anyways so why ever go more than 20x, if you are a winner you will be just fine. Ive even heard some suggest a 100x BR for SNG's, which is ridiculous and terribly unfounded

however, if you consistently win 2/3, even 3/5, you can go with 10-20 BI's on DON's,

now, I do suggest that if this means you can move up in stakes that you should just watch a few first to get a feel of the game and see if the play is any different so you can pick up right where you left off

I think it also depends on how disposable your BR is. If youre fulltime and poker is your only income you need a much bigger BR than someone who still lives with his parents and has no bills. I have a low cost of living and an okay income so I can afford to put up another roll if i bust

TOTALLY! Not only does your bankroll have to be bigger, you SHOULD also have a whole years worth of bills in the bank just in case you go Black Swan. I play rec so I really do not care, if I get my next cruise paid for by poker then awesome, if not no biggie....its my glory income at best

I play recreationally but my goal is semi-pro. I'd like to be able to step down to a part time job and make up for the lesser income with poker. But for now I'm just taking stabs at running it up until I get something to stick
