I somehow managed to win a $75 token in a freeroll. I need to use it in the next 2 weeks before it expires.

I've only ever played $1 buy ins up to now.

My Question is:-

What differences can I expect to see ? Will there still be Fish at this level ? All in pre flops ? Will there be lots of folds to the BB ? Is there more bluffing ? etc etc

I'll probably be playing really tight for a while <normal for me anyway> til i get a gist of how people play.

Any info, tips and advice would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks Guys...

more aggressive play - i.e no limped pots
less people trying just to flip or getting it in with aj or something

More aggression. More check raises from your opponents with wide ranges of hands. Way more 3 betting from your opponents. And just generally better poker players. With that said it's still the same game. Just play your game and run good :)

Just entered the $25,000 Grand Tuesday...

1st hand i got 88 on the button !

A raise UTG+1... A 3 Bet from MP... I folded my cards and the BB went all in !!

BB had AA... UTG+1 AJo and MP had KK...

Aces held up but I would have won the hand with a straight ! I'm happy with the fold tho I think it was correct play.... I could have called the 3 bet (180 chips out of starting 2000) and then been faced with a 4 way all in for all my chips which i think i'd definately have to fold and it was my first hand ever in a big buy in LOL I wanted to see more than one hand :)

I've shared a pot so far from the only flop I've seen...

Well I've survived to the second break...

I was in the middle of the field but we just had an addon and rebuy break... Now i'm near the bottom again...

The person to my left who i was gonna try and bully for some blinds Did a rebuy for 2000 chips and an addon for 3000 chips... seems like 75% of the tourney did the addon...

I've played ok so far but if who has the biggest purse dictates the outcome i'm crushed...

Saying that... I shoved AK into KK and hit an ace so i'm a very lucky boy to still be in the tourney :)

High stakes buy-ins certainly will NOT be freerollish...but I can guarantee you there will be a lot of scared money at the tables.
Take advantage of that and stick to your best game.

My advice ...
Don't use a token to enter a rebuy/add-on tournament unless you are bankrolled to play in it. Not having the $'s to rebuy & addon places you at a HUGE disadvantage.

I think the scared money is in front of me LOL...

Got the chip leader to my right picking at my small stack but I've just shoved on him and he yielded...

I'm still surviving... 16 BBs left... Antes still quite small but I'm thinkin I may have to play more loose and Aggressive here cos the bubble looks a long way away right now...

Definitely a different game tho ! People more aggressive with 3 bets and 4 bets but players respect your bets more so I'm winning with raises UTG or in MP without seeing a flop... That's a refreshing change

Depends on what you define as high stakes. I play a ton of tourneys at the $100 range online and because of the rebuy factor, many players play just as reckless. Bovada is the only online option without reentries.

True... High Stakes is relative to your own personal wealth... I can see that $75 is peanuts to a lot of people here... It is a lot of money to me tho and I'm only playing it cos I got lucky and won a satellite...

Saying that Timfbmx is right in what he said... 'It's still the same game'

Well I finished 41 out of 119... The last prize spot was 18...

Enjoyed the game... more sedentary pace about it... Sensible play... I got beat buy better, more experienced players... I was lucky I got this far cos I did shove early into a big hand and got lucky but We've all been on the wrong end of those I guess...

I wont be playing in such big buy ins again for a while cos my bankroll can't support it, but it was nice swimming with the sharks for a while at any rate :)

How did you play it? more lag?
With 16 BBs and the bubble a long way off I'm not sure this would would be the best strategy in a tourney with a buy-in you're not familiar with.
My opinion in this case is that you should have immediately started to think of your push/fold strategy here (others may disagree) considering your uncertainty regarding the difference in high stakes and micro.
Did the big stack on your right start pushing you around?
did you raise or call with marginal hands?
Did you get yourself in a position where you had to shove with nothing to avoid blinding out?
I believe in your position it would have served you well to have played push or fold, at least you would have controlled your own destiny.
Waiting for 10 BBs would have broadcast your intentions and you would have had no fold equity whatsoever.

Nah I never went LAG... I just can't play that style... I blinded out really.... One of my weaknesses ! I recognized at 16 BB I should be shoving but I wait too long I guess for the hand that never comes....

I agree totally with your appraisal... 10 BBs has always been a trigger point to push/fold and I'm a bit annoyed with myself that I kinda knew at 16BB I should start to push/fold but again... another weakness of mine is actually playing push/fold well... When your back is against the wall it is more natural but at 16 BB I was thinking I still had time to play patiently but before i knew it I had less than 10 BBs and the sharks had napkins on...

I must say tho... After surviving a few hours I was quite happy with the differences between micro/high stakes... Ironically playing against better players i found it a bit easier to predict opponents hands from their raises and their playing postions !

The big stack on my right didn't bully me much even tho he was 4th in chips...

Thanks John for your comment... I think in future I'm gonna start shoving a bit sooner so I'm not a billboard !
