Ive had a similar problem recently lacking headsup game which lead to me blowing chip leads and many many 2nd place finishes...First advice...you need to accept headsup variance..it is very high and an edge headsup isn't too much...theres a pretty big luck factor...Second get agro on your button...you should be opening 90%+ of hands on your buttons and using that positional advantage..if your deep enough you should only be mucking complete trash preflop when u have the button i.e. 72 93 82 etc...Third...cbet cbet cbet..after raising your buttons if the BB flat calls and checks on the flop you should be betting that flop 80%+ of the time no matter what you have looking to take down the pot OTF....Fourth...Know your opponent and adjust accordingly..a problem many people have...if your opponent is a nit you should be betting betting betting and likely raising every button and folding to nearly every time he raises his button...If you know you are the better player you need to break down your opponent and eat his stack slowly...If your up againist a maniac you need to be sitting somewhat tighter and 3bet/4bet him at times...Once you fall under 8bb or your opponent falls under 8bb its push fold mode and you should be shoving 75-80% of your buttons if short stacked...IF you are big stacked and your opposition is super short tighten up a bit...make sure you get it in ahead and not hand your opponent an easy double up giving him a shot to beat you...so call off tighter...headsup play can be tricky...and often comes down to who spews off or makes a mistake first...understand the better player wont always win either...Good Luck to ya

Okay cool I'm not overly concerned about my winrate because I'm winning more than losing overall... Meaning I'm making money from sit n go's atm I'm up $30 with between 60c - 2.80 games.

I play 4 at the sametime I did 6 but I found I halved my win rate so I stick with 4... Today so far I've done 4 sit n go's and come first in one and 3rd in the other... Busted out AJ vs KQ ouch :) 4 card flush draw for him lol and it was a J lol

Don't want to be discouraging but that sample size is really small and, in my opinon, in order to play good poker you should not look at results. Especially in heads-up games, I find that I tilt more than I would on other games if I'm losing more than I should be.

Just focus on good, logical decisions that make sense in the situation provided and you'll be fine :)

That's good :) good observation on your part sticking to 4....agree above dont be results oriented as HU variance is high and your gonna make the right play and lose a lot...just keep in mind you did profit by actually getting headsup!

When I play heads up I have 3 different rules i follow strictly.
1- play aggressive
2- dont go too deep in a hand and when u find it hard to play just fold it as next one is upcoming
3- listen to this :O :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jj4nJ1YEAp4

I've found that when it comes to heads up you have many more starting hands than at an earlier stage in a tourney. Heads up S&G's are a different game. Do you know your opponents game, have you played him/her before. Do you know what they are willing to bet and fold with. All this comes into play when I play S&G HU.
Button should never call, only raise or fold. My stats on these are not very high having not played too many, but the ones I have played, I'm up 15%.

The button should definitely call Martinez. Limping is a huge part of the game, particularly at short to mid stacks, and if it's not being utilized, especially at lower levels, you're missing out against a lot of opponents.

I would learn what effective stacks are, I would focus on making decisions based on your opponent and the effective stack size, learning basic hand ranges (what range of hands your opponent might take an action with, and in turn, what range of hands you should take an action with knowing that information).

These are some of the important fundamentals. Don't fold too much on button NOR out of position when you're 30bb or less in HUSNG. Those are the two biggest mistakes players make.

Don't get into any static strategies, your strategy should change vs many different opponents. If you're doing the same thing vs most opponents, you're not doing it right (this is different from many forms of poker I believe, particularly full ring).

HUSNG can be very immersive and enjoyable, you just need to go into it with the right attitude and really look at different strategies and how different plays put your opponent in different situations (that they may react poorly or strongly to).

HU's is pretty simply. Main rule if you wanna win is aggressive play and that's all. If opponent will see that you are weak you'll lose.

This is such an oversimplification that it's mind-boggling. I love playing hyper-aggressive guys. They do all the work and I take all their chips. Aggression is important in HU play --- but it's not even close to all you need to be successful. Anyone who tells you differently doesn't know what they're talking about.

well when it came to playing 1 on 1,I think that all hands with Q,K,A good that comes pocket pairs, so this is a bomb in game 1 on 1 I think you need to open 80-90% of their hands, and of course you need to have some information about your opponent when I play 1 on 1 at the end of sit & go or tournament almost never lose

playmoney

I think playmoney is waste of time in general.

But now i actually habe started to play more anz more HU in playmoney mode.

It helps with variance in play.

Even the matter of fact that it is playmoney it also a matter of respect.

You simply dont wanna lose oneonone.

Am I totally wrong about this or is it a good way to experience a lot of headsup?

I think no matter what you were destined to get all in AJ vs AT. If he had open shoved, you would have called. If he would've minraised, you would have jammed and he would've called. He limped, you should raise, and no matter how fast or long you raise he should get it all in at short stacks with AT.

In head's up is the most of luck because when You play for example with 6
players You can know what they probobly got but guessing in HU is very hard You play many hands same way there .
Try to feel Your opponent :)

Donkey, your argument just means that hand ranges are wider (AKA, people can have more types of hands in a situation).

But, honestly, with bet sizing, timing tells, and taking different actions on the flop, turn and river, heads up gives you a ton of information about your opponent and you can really adjust and kill them.

It's not really about luck at all, you should just be adjusting a lot in heads up play vs your specific opponent, whereas in a game where guys are raising with top 20% of hands and so on, there are going to be less adjustments to be made.

Heads up is far more profitable than 6 or 9 man SNG too, it's not bc ppl are just lucky either ;)
