Heads-Up opponent goes All-In frequently

Hello,

I've been into STTs lately and I find it hard to deal with people who go all-in a lot.

Usually the blinds are already big, lets say like i have a total of 25 BBs and villain has ~12, and in every 5 minutes it gets higher. So I can manage to get chip advantage and take the edges until they start going all-in 3 out of every 5 hands.

The usual scenario after this is that I try to call only the better hands (A8+, 66+) and fold the rest. And after a while I find myself folding nearly every hand (well sometimes I get a mid-premium hand and call, but then he suddenly has a decent hand and I get beaten).

I'm here to ask you guys how should I deal with people going all-in a lot in heads-up play?

Thands in advance guys :)

Well, thank you, but I'm interested in this specific scenario and don't want to go through the whole thing to find it yet.

I think I'll read it in the holidays when I'll have some time though :)

this is not a bad thing its a good thing, you can either pull up a nash chart or you can try to figure out his range

you can also limp good hands if he is shoving over your limps

Just call those better hands as you mention above. In the long run, you win.

You can also try to trap him if youre first to act.

Winning 13/25 sit and goes is still profit. Just keep putting in the work. You'll be fine.

Also, calling with K-8s or better is a lot of the time a standard play, esp having a 2/1 chip adv. It will send a message even if you loose the hand - don't shove light on me; it's not profitable!

Agree, heads up play is different.
If players do it in full ring just wait it out they won,t last long.

I am in such situations too aggressive. Of course, not every card. A little patience is all ok. Yet chances are 50:50.

If I'm up against somebody who wants to play bingo and keeps shoving constantly, I tend to start doing the same thing too. You simply cannot wait for Ax and PP's here, especially when there are antes, because every chip you lose goes directly into the villain's stack and you will wind up getting eaten alive.

If you find yourself folding nearly every hand, this is what is going to almost guarantee that you blind out in 2nd place anyway so start shoving on the button with anything that looks halfway decent. You will often find that people who are quick to shove are also reluctant to call, so this will help stop the bleeding. You're rarely going to be a huge dog when called, even holding something like 96s, most often you will still have two live cards.

I would change your calling range to AJ and better Aces and 88 and higher pocket pairs.....depending on blind structures- I would also shove a lot more liberally than against most opponents K8 suited and better wouldn't shove with QJ or J10 type hands until I gauge opponent's willingness to call my shoves..... always remember it takes a stronger hand to call an all in than to shove - try to put them on the defensive some but in terms of you calling when they already have shoved tighten up yr range slightly and your results will improve (you are giving up some equity at times when folding the best hand but A8 or 66 are usually just marginally the best hand or 60 pct to win - if the blinds allow it I want to catch villain with a situation where he is dominated)

Heads up is a time to push more marginal hands and put your opponent to a decision before blinds get larger and his decisions becomes easier. With the blind situations you need to pounce, and not give him a chance to get it closer, then it will turn and it becomes dicey. Stay aggressive

Call him when you have a Queen or higher and shove with a Queen (or maybe even Jack or connected pocket) when you are first to act. You can't sit there and wait for premium hands in a HU situation. It's a crap shoot, and you're better off being the agressor, especially if you have the chip lead.

yu can limp in a pot when you have the nuts since he might go all in, and catch him that way but you have to have patience

I think very complicated. I learned the other day with tv commentators (lol) that when your opponent in heads-up is stronger the ideal is to play fewer hands with higher values. And against weaker players ideally play more hands controlling the pot.

Maybe that's why he tries so many all-ins for not knowing behave in a situation of heads up

It's just a part of playing heads up. I can't tell you how many times I get called a donk when I'm playing a SNG and we're down to the last 2 or 3 people and I go all in. If you are trying to play regular poker during heads up, YOU WILL LOSE

I think it's importance to not show weakness early on, or many players will dominate you pushing like this.

Is difficult to play against someone who always goes all in for the fact of not knowing whether or not to have a good hand, i would expect my case that instinct or good hand and wait for results.
