So I was thinking about the story I heard about Annete O playing that tournament online without looking at her cards. If someone could fill in the details I actually don't know the level or whatever, but she apparently won.

Has anyone here ever tried to duplicate this feat in a tournament? Sounds like an interesting experiment. Be honest!

i have never tried it myself
but i've heard of people doing it.
i thinks its about postition ,reads etc.
and probably lots of other things.
would this apply equally to cash games and tourny's ?
i'm interested to see some reply's to this
good topic

Vanquish used to do this on a regular basis, can't remember if Gin or Vodka was the inspiration.

It was a 180plyr SNG. (I believe '$10' buyin or thereabouts).

"stack sizes" "effective stack sizes"

Would be pretty terrible for cash games imo (certainly wouldn't apply 'equally')

I think the experiment of doing this would mainly help some players to see how important 'position' is

I've done it. There's a little program called alwaysontop, or something like that, which I ran and had it over my cards. It's a good exercise. Mainly it focuses you on reads on your opponents.

Have you ever made a move because of opponent tendencies + your position where your cards were pretty unimportant in your assumption of how your opponent would react to your play? For example you re raise in the blind cause the button has been raising a certain amount when he had good and another amount to steal, and you are pretty sure this is a steal raise, you RR and, just as you suspected, he snap folds.

There are many such situations where your cards are in last place decision wise. I read about that as well, and it was just using this thinking only as an experiment. I also read that it was a number of tries and not all were successful, but on the average, using position and reads were shown to be exactly what they are.....IMPORTANT.

Arnol Snider talks about this in his book poker tornament formular , he talks about using this technique to teach yourself to play position and to act on your reads. Worth a read , havent tried it myself but sounds interesting , If you try Snyder suggests you need to cup your hands as if you were looking but dont lift the cards .

There are definitely spots where cards are the least important, but it usually takes good reads.

There are a ton of hands in HU games where your reads are so good you can pretty much play without cards, just based on lol betting patterns and board textures.

For instance, if someone 3-bets like every Ax, he can never have much on an Axx flop so you can pretty much barrel off all the time.

Or you see stuff like this:

Donks small flop + donks small turn = nothing

Donks small flop + donks big turn = nuts

there is an option on PS to
'hide hole cards' and it works.
I found out when i was playing a HU
in the CC heads up thing.
i couldn't see my hole cards, they where facedown.
i logged out, logged back in, rebooted my pc,
uninstalled/reinstalled PS and finally went thru'
all the options menu and found it.
so if you want to try it, tick the 'hide hole cards'
in the options menu on PS.
dont do it by mistake tho'
lol
