Harrinton is coming out with a new "harrtington on modern tourmanets" book. The old HoH books are very outdated, and I don't know what you guys think about this book. do you guys think this book is worth the buy?

haven't heard anything about it yet...but thanks for the heads up! I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

FWIW, I don't think the original HoH is too outdated...I think it's a great place to start....but just don't get stuck there!

I think it is worth buying for tournament players who already have some knowledge or that read the old book...
About the old I think I've heard or read (don´t remember) somewhere a pro saying that it is a bit outdated, but nevertheless it is a very good book

I havent heard anything about the new book coming out.
I would ceretainly check it out if it does come out.
I always thought the other HOH books were primarily cash game books.
But action dan has always been one of my favorites.

How dated the HoH books are isn't the same for everyone. The higher the level, the more the game has changed since they came out.

didnt read any of those except for some extracts. As every poker book they may become outdated soon.
It doesnt worth too much to advance players.
Overall I am quite sure that a newbie or an amateur will be able to find loads of useful stuff inside to improve their way to think the tournament and their game in general.

Reading is never worthless unless the book really suck. and Harrington's really doesnt..

If you put what's yours expectation are WE might be more accurate with an advice,

I didn't know either about his new book coming out, but I'll take a look at it. Seems though that every celeb player is writing a book to cash in on the popularity of poker these days. I wonder if it's oriented more at live play (more likely) or online, or both...

I like Harrington's QUIZ YOU AS YOU GO method. While the nature of poker play may vary with the times, I think there are such things as adages which will have held true in any poker game ever played and will hold true in any poker game that ever will be played. While Harrington does give examples which have "right and wrong" answers determined by his own poker ideology, Harrington goes into detail to show one WHY a particular action is better than another. So if the "harrington answer" is RAISE, Harrington will tend toward showing you what may very well happen if you CALLED instead. I haven't really seen any discernible situations in Harrington's books where repercussions of not following the recommended action in a particular hand could not possibly come to fruition in a modern day tournament.

I don't think Harrington's books could ever be outdated as long as the rules of Texas Hold'em stay the same. It is for this reason I LOVE reading books like those offered by Harrington, Caro, and Sklansky: the timeless nature of the material means you are acquiring knowledge that will perpetually pertain.

As Jesse Livermore, the greatest financial market trader who ever lived once said regarding the timeless nature of financial market patterns:

"I absolutely believe that price movement patterns are being repeated. They are recurring patterns that appear over and over, with slight variations. This is because markets are driven by humans — and human nature never changes."

Does this apply to poker as well. I certainly believe so!

I am about 1/3 of the way through reading this book and I cannot say enough good things about it.

I asked for it and received it for my birthday a couple weeks ago, and just now picked it up. I can't believe I am even taking this little bit of time away from reading to type to you guys since I'm so engrossed by the book...but I just thought I'd share because I'm actually bummed at myself for not reading it 2 weeks ago!

nothing in there is revolutionary, it's just so concise and well explained and logically organized. It basically takes all of what we are trying to accomplish on this forum and boils it down to a few key concepts you need to solve for in each situation. I know poker is a very vast and complex topic, but for my money Harrington presents it in the style that is most "easily digestible" and "usable, practical advice"

and while I say it is concise, it is a 479 page book (that I am only 150 pages into) but it's as concise as it can possibly be while being extremely helpful and practical.

just do yourself a favor and spend the $35 or whatever on amazon.

fyi: I have absolutely no affiliation with action dan or his publisher. just a fan and avid poker reader here. :)

I haven't read the new one, but really learned a lot from the old books. Some of the strategies may be a bit outdated, but I learned a lot about pot odds and the different m zones when playing tournies

I thoroughly enjoyed the old trilogy, and I think it is a great place to start (even if some of the strategies are too tight and outdated. you have to learn to crawl before you can walk...)

however, this new book is really nothing like the old book except for his writing style and organizational style.

It's not like a "digitally enhanced" version of an old movie where the movie is just basically exactly the same with a few extra special effects and a bonus scene or two....it is like a whole different movie with the same director.

very good. i'm sure eventually, this book will be outdated in the specific strategies he talks about, but the core concepts and how to think through a hand will apply probably forever.
