Hello,

I have been trying to learn so much material lately that I think I have clouded my brain with so much information. What used to be a simple thing has turned into a confusing thing. I'm talking about narrowing down opponents hand ranges. I mean from pre flop all the way to the river if necessary. Was wondering if anyone has a pretty easy way of doing this? Do you start with all possible pocket pairs, then all possible aces, then all possible kings, and then all possible suited connectors etc. I am looking for a quick way to do this because online the timer is kind of fast. What is your systematic way for narrowing down the ranges? Also, if you know any good resources for getting better at this I would be so grateful.

thanks

It depends upon their position and how much they bet that I attempt to determine their hands. If you have never played against the player and he us under the gun and bets like five times the blind then I would put him on a very strong hand, AA-QQ.

If the button raises triple the blind then I would put him on a big ace or a pair. If the BB raises X 3, I would put them on an high Ace or small pair.

The closer to the BB the better hand I will put somebody under, the further away I will give them a wider range of hands.

If I am the small blind and call the BB and they raise I would put them on any A or K.

But I am fairly new to poker (one year) but I play in two or three live tournaments a week.

You're a short stacker. You don't care about hand reading. Here is everything you need.

lolololol WV

Anyway, as for OP, I would check out the golden archives, FP has a couple of threads in there about analyzing your own play and deducing hand ranges, they are truly awesome. Check those out, read them and reread them, I think you'll find them most helpful.

hand reading has alot to do with reading people, not so much physically but mathematically, learn how people act in vertain situations and caapitalize on that. learn peoples personalities and realize what the last person like this guy did in the same situation and you will make alot more money then you are now.

I wish I could take the credit for making it but I just saw it posted elsewhere. Thought it was hilarious and appropriate for this thread.

OMFG I laughed uncontrollably for 10 minutes. I needed that laugh, WV. Thanks.

This isn't the actual dialog from the movie I take it?

still no answer to my question

This thread is absolutely ridiculous. First of all this is not even funny. It does not answer the question that was asked. Not only that, who laughs out loud for ten minutes by themselves at something that just isn't funny. Is this the purpose of this thread? To make jokes at people who are trying to learn. Let me know Hillbilly when you want to post something that helps answer the question. This isn't comedy hour plow boy

I have a very good tendency to read people very well. Usually overaggressive players bet outright even if they have nothing and continue so usually u can read that they have nothing and can get paid off big time. I usually think of what they have and how my hand compares and take a very good luck at their play even if im not in the hand.

Not sure you will ever get an answer with such a condescending tone. Your first intial reply to the post suggest that. You resorted to name calling due to seeing something you didn't like. Had you not, this thread could of went on with lot more advice given.

Actually see your comments to be reprehensible than the post with the pictures and hilarious comments. It wasn't derogatory, didn't come out and directly insult you. Not sure what qualifies you to critique comedy or what people think is funny. If anything, you didn't get the answers you wanted in the manner you wanted them. Maybe reread this with your ego sit aside.

I think you have your answer if you really are a shortstacker. There is no need for analysis. Just push or fold is what VW is trying to say as nicely as possible.

SSers aren't going to get any much better advice from people who hate them at their table.

Hey pokerverse, I believe you're the genius who was uncontrollably laughing by yourself at something that is just not even funny for the first look. How about some original comedy instead of just taking pictures from a movie and adding text. And what qualifies you, (someone who laughs uncontrollably by themselves at something that is not funny at all), to tell me anything about my ego and how I perceive the comments on the thread. Why are you even commenting at all? You have made 2 posts and neither one of them has anything to do with the original question.

Look,(someone who laughs uncontrollably by themselves at something that is not funny at all), is your life that boring that you have to go search around in forums for funny posts which you can comment on? How about using the forum the way it is supposed to be used by adding comments that might help answer someone's question.
