I was watching a poker hands episode by Doug Polk and he was talking about bet sizing deep in tournaments. I've noticed the standard bet sizes are a lot smaller when people run deep, and are around 1/3 the pot. I assumed they did this because accumulating chips is not as important as preserving your stack, so getting value by betting bigger as your standard, is less valuable than betting smaller and saving your stack when you are behind. Doug Polk says he doesn't know why the do these small bet sizing as their standard and goes on to say not to do it. Wanted to know other peoples ideas on what is close to GTO and the pros and cons of these bet sizes when deep in tournaments.

Seen alot of the pros tend to bet 1/3 to 40% on the flop They also bet smaller preflop as well, min bet, 2.1x, 2.2x, 2.5x etc
In cash games Preflop tends to be2.5 to 3x and CBETs tend to be 50-70% sometimes lower depending on texture of flop

Assuming its do do with survival cos the stacks are alot shallower in MTTS whereas in cash they are alot deeper and they can just rebuy if they lose their stack

i.e. the higher your bet on the flop the more pot committed you are.

Deep in the tourney just min bet the heck outta people. The min bet strategy also known as low ball poker. there is a bit more to it then just the min bet of course, but I think you get the idea. A min bet is usually a huge amount of chips at end game. It also gives you chance to get out of the hand.
