Hello,

I'm starting to grind the low stakes turbo sit n go's. I have 2 questions basically.

1) what percentage of these should I be finishing in the money? Seems like I will be doing okay until I get knocked out of 5 or 6 in a row due to bad runs of cards. Basically I will just sit there waiting for a starting hand that never comes. and then I get down to around 10 bb and I shove with something and lose. This seems to happen regularly. I know about the independent chip model and I am trying to learn push/fold currently. Is this normal to all grinders?

2) when I lose like 3-4 in a row, should I just keep playing the same level of stakes in hopes of recovering the losses with a good run of cards?

It just seems like the variance is just too hard to overcome. It always comes down to 1 or 2 bad beats that is the difference between me making a profit and me not making a profit. HELP PLEASE!

I need to know how to handle the swings. Do I just keep my head to the grindstone and keep playing through the ridiculous swings?

Please respond if you can.

Thanks

First off, make sure you are properly bankrolled for 100 buy-ins If you are playing $2 SNGs, have $200 to play. This will help you handle the swings.

It is true that when you get to 10BB's and below, your stack loses fold equity. In other words, a shove by you will cause big stacks to call you in the blinds because their pot odds dictate they should, even with a marginal hand. Variance is variance, so you have to keep grinding and make good decisions. Some tips...

1. Shove late position and unopened, sometimes with any two when you have 10BB or lower

2. Put pressure on medium stacks as they try to stay strong going ITM

3. Dont wait around for a good hand and get blinded down. Kill the fear and put it in with any two...it's better than blinding away your stack when you are under 10BB's!

your itm% should be 40% or slightly over that is normal. as said 100buyins is good fora givem level but if you feel your losing you might try dropping as you learn to beat the game.

For the most part you can ignore your ITM% - I don't even have the first clue what mine is. What you need to be paying attention to are your ROI and $/hr figures. If your ROI is positive then you're making money and obviously the bigger the number the better. $/hr is useful for comparing things like your return on turbos vs standard speed tournaments at the same buy-in level.

Don't sweat it if you get knocked out of five or six games in a row. It's not uncommon to have losing streaks that last for 10, 15, maybe even 20 games. Just play your best and let the cards fall however they fall, your winning streaks should make up for them in the long run. So yeah, just play through them. And like the guys have said above, making sure you're properly rolled is an important way of helping to deal with the swings.

Best of luck :)
