Hi CC,
I was at a live tournament on Friday and just want to see what you guys think of the way I played this hand. I had a pretty tight image at the table I would think and was playing well with a top 5 stack out of 35ish players.
I had pocket 7s in late position, there had been a big raise UTG from a tight player, I thought about 3 betting but knew that if I did the chips would go in and I wasn't confident I was beating any of his range (pocket jacks or bigger or maybe AQ/AK). I flat called and there was another caller.
The flop came AA8 with two diamonds, there was then a continuation bet which I called and the other caller folded. I was then ready to fold to another bet unless I seen a 7.
The turn brought a diamond (not sure what card) which the villain checked. At this time I believed he had big pockets, maybe kings queens or jacks and was afraid of the aces and the flush. I waited a couple of seconds and announced all in which put his tournament at risk. I calmly picked up my phone and begin to text. He tanked for a while and then folded.
He then announced that he had folded an ace but thought I also had an ace with a stronger kicker. I believe from how he had been playing that this was possible as he was a very tight player, but I thought that if that was true it was a very disciplined fold.
What do you guys think of the way I played? was it too aggressive?
Cheers, Goughy88
