Hi CC,

I was at a live tournament on Friday and just want to see what you guys think of the way I played this hand. I had a pretty tight image at the table I would think and was playing well with a top 5 stack out of 35ish players.

I had pocket 7s in late position, there had been a big raise UTG from a tight player, I thought about 3 betting but knew that if I did the chips would go in and I wasn't confident I was beating any of his range (pocket jacks or bigger or maybe AQ/AK). I flat called and there was another caller.

The flop came AA8 with two diamonds, there was then a continuation bet which I called and the other caller folded. I was then ready to fold to another bet unless I seen a 7.

The turn brought a diamond (not sure what card) which the villain checked. At this time I believed he had big pockets, maybe kings queens or jacks and was afraid of the aces and the flush. I waited a couple of seconds and announced all in which put his tournament at risk. I calmly picked up my phone and begin to text. He tanked for a while and then folded.

He then announced that he had folded an ace but thought I also had an ace with a stronger kicker. I believe from how he had been playing that this was possible as he was a very tight player, but I thought that if that was true it was a very disciplined fold.

What do you guys think of the way I played? was it too aggressive?

Cheers, Goughy88

I think it was the right bluff at the right time. Your image was right and he noticed it, plus he had a range on you and you played the hand just like he expected to be in that range. I hate putting my tournament life at risk on a bluff, and so do most other people including your opponent, and I am sure that no matter what he held, he knew that too and that is what made him through away his cards, now, whether he had an ace or not is questionable, that would be really nitty play that I don't think 99% of players (including pros) are going to make. I would image he had a big pocket pair from tens up to kings, but I seriously doubt he had an ace. How did you end up doing and how did he end up?

I think the ace he was not. He also had a pocket pair. From all written, I do not understand everything. Google Translator bad. I can not say as herein would have acted.

Yea I think your right, I'm not sure if he could have folded an ace in that spot but probably kings or queens.

I ended up getting down to the last 13 when I woke up with pocket queens, there were two flat callers before me so I raised 3x. The Big blind then pushed all in, then one of the flat callers re raised all in putting me all in.
I thought for a few moments about folding as I thought he had played the hand like aces that wanted to get action but when I asked him if he had aces something didn't seem right.
So with me having a 90k stack and the BB having a stack of 50k I decided to call as I was confident that if I was ahead and my hand held I would have a stack of 230k with only 570k left between the last 10 players.

I called and showed my queens with the BB showing pockets 9s and the flat caller showing AK. It was a race. The flop came 10,6,8 the turn brought a 7 giving the BB a straight and the river didn't fail to disappoint by bringing a king to only eliminate me.

Looking back I think I could have let the hand go and kept my 90k stack but I wasn't dissapointed losing to a flip.
