I've been playing poker for about 6 months now. I used Bovada all the way up until this pasted Friday. At which time I decided to play on Bovada, Carbon, And Black Chip. I've learned a lot over the past 6 months on Bovada including Micro Payouts and a WIN. The win came on a $1 buy in to a beginners tournament. 1st place was $45. I was excited lol... HOWEVER, I stopped playing tournaments that small. I feel I have learned enough to go bigger and also It felt a little to easy.

**ADVICE**
Over the weekend I had my first break through. Since my beginners tournament win, I had not made it into pay out positions in a while. After opening a account with Carbon and Black Chip (this past weekend) I literally played 8 Tournaments Friday Through Sunday (no multi table, just one at a time). Out of them 8 Tournaments I finished in the bottom field of the payout positions. 8 out of 8 tournaments I cashed out for at least double my buy in. All Tournaments were $1,000 GTD. What I want to do now is go deeper into the tournament and possibly make a final table (first one since my beginner tourney). My style is, play solid good hands only to start. Bet when the time is right, and build chips. I play tight but smart. Once all "non-paying" positions are eliminated I tend to loosen a little because I'm in the money. However, I'm at 20,000 to 40,000 chips and 1st through 10th are around 80,000+ chips. How do I climb up? Is it something I'm doing at the start of the Tourny? Or Should I change Something after the Bubble Breaks?

usually get involved more before the bubble breaks. you will cash less as a % overall, but will give you more shots at taking down the top 3 places, which the majority of MTT players money is made.

You will have to play more hands as tournament goes on and blind increase you can play suited connectors and other good hands if you don't hit the flop and they all check back to you you must bet playing in position is good in tournaments as if your opponents don't hit the flop hard you can make a bet and take the pot.play more hands in position
If you have a chance where you think you are a head and some one moves all in and its a flip then you can take it if you want going deep into big tournaments you will have to be lucky in coin flip situations.
Play smart don't try to make to many moves which don't make any sense for example don't try to represent you have a big pair when you limped on the flop today i had king 9 in the big blind button limped sB folds i checked flop came king 9 ace i checked guy moved all in with 2s he had a 30 BB stack and lost it all so if you are bluffing sell them a good story lol

just wait the right hand to double up..call with small pairs and shove with bigger ones..because in the bubble play..the chip leaders usually call with almost anykind of hands..

Play with no fear.
I know when you start out going deep is like a nerve racky experience for many players.
But you just need to make brave decisions.
Keep yourself alive when your card dead or well your still in the game with a chance (treading water we call it)

You have to be prepared to go to war and in war you have to be prepared to die.
Just try your best to find weaknesses in players and take every spot you get for late raises and re-steals from loose players.
(I dont mean re-raise with garbage) but if you have a playable hand and the time is right to take the spot.
Do not be affraid to push all in on an open raiser if you have fold equity 18-20BB or more.

Ironicly, by pushing all in you will amount a stack but the times you do win the flips your going to be amounting a huge stack

Your going have to either shove or fold pre-flop as you get closer and closer to the bubble and the blinds and antes get higher and higher. Never call any bet in a situation where you have less than 15 blinds, since you won't have the implied odds. Choose a range where you want to shove and stick with it. ex. AJs, AQo+, 88 and higher.
As the antes and blinds go up, I'm just dying to get all my chips in for the steal.

When I scrape through and just beat the bubble it tends to be because i am playing too tight - over prioritising payouts over final tables. I think it's very implortant to recognise that it's hard to win a tournament without taking the kind of risks that mean you may miss the bubble.

I don't tend to worry too much about position if I'm within 50% of the average stack size. So much can change in the space of a few hands it really means little until you're playing for your place at the final table. Obviously nice to have large stack to bully with but not essential.

I also think patience is key. I see so many people shoving after they lose a big hand. I've final tabled and even won tournaments after coming back from less than 1 BB. I think giving up when you still have BB's to play shows real immaturity / lack of experience / laziness.

You're not playing that many tournaments at the moment to be honest either.

no offense

no offense to this guy, but honestly doesn't really know what he's talking about to a a certain extent

http://www.holdemresources.net/h/web-calculators/nashicm.html

go to this website, and get used to using this icm nash calculator, it shows you when you should push/fold late in a tourney when the blinds get large. you'll be very surprised at the weaker hands they have you push with at the end of a tourney, but follow that icm man, it reaaly works

try to play a little more aggressively at bubble time, especially if you have shorter stacks to act after you do.most players tighten up to make sure they arent the bubble boy

Your style of play is very common and there is nothing wrong with that. The biggest thing you need to do is be patient because poker is tough and theres no way you can win them all. As you continue to grow as a poker player you will begin to tweak your game slightly and find out what works for you.

I believe you can take away some good tips from the guys above but the most important one is to be comfortable within your buyin range and to always think positive!!

once you feel you reach your goal (itm) then play DoN (shove), you are going to bust quite often but if you have a good skid then you will be among the leaders

Id say dont worry about making the money,
its the times you do cash big that make up for bubbling...
to do that, play slow and tight,
but also knowing when to use position to your advantage as well as who the overly tight players are to steal from
avoid messing with big stack unless you know you can get him to double you up
if you get low on stacks, move to fold or shove game usually around 10bbs (many people say more-15ish but you can wait til 7 or 8 too)
near bubble more aggression usually pays off, but can make you bubble too- so some caution is needed- but you WANT those chips
1 final table is way better than many min cashes, so dont be afraid to lose,
you cant win them all, but 1 big win makes up for that
after bubble stay tight, too many people get happy and decide to start shoving wide in hopes of stacking up, usually with weaker hands, so wait for the opportune moments and enjoy the money:D

This is good post and hopefully I can help.
I find alot of tournament players are stuck in the "min cash" section of tournaments and have a hard time adjusting and getting deeper into them.
This is A tricky stage because as the blinds are constantly rising your chip stack must obviously do the same,by this stage of the tournament you should have A preety good read on tables images and there ranges,so your position is crutial at this stage and knowing your villians playing stayles and images are as well.
You must make moves and pick up spots in order to gain A chip stack that can flucuate with the blinds rising.
This is no time to be scared or have scared money in a tournament, because if you do your chips will dwindle to nothing faster than you can imagine and then you would be forced to make a decision for akll of your hips that you normally wouldnt have made if you had more chips.
It isnt uncommon waiting on the bubble to burst for the tournament to tighten down tighter than ......... this is the time to use your spots to pick up as many chip[s as you possibly can,.

Thank you for all the Info, there is deff a lot of good info here. My next question relates to going deeper in a tournament.... Should I be playing $1,000 GTD with a $1 buy in that has 250+ players? Or Should I move up to the same $1,000 GTD with a $15 buy in that has only 60 -100 players?
