I wanted to share my thoughts on the new GG Poker Flip N Go tournaments and offer some tips as I gave one a go last night and it's safe to say the following is all true:
- These will be a degen's dream
- These will be the most tilting experience you might ever face
- This innovation will appeal to those looking to get MTT's in quick.

Ok so the set-up - and some things you need to know:
- You buy-in to the upcoming flip at the buy-in level of your choice
- You choose the number of buy-ins you want to enter for. THIS IS KEY!
- The tournament starts as an all-in shootout - you have to win your table to advance
- You are dealt 3 cards and choose one to discard
- All players go all in and play progresses until 1 player holds all of the chips
- Once all tables are complete, players assemble as a standard MTT with most players holding an above average stack and play progresses as a normal MTT.

TIPS TO WINNING
- You have to buy-in for 10 stacks. Why? Take this example:
I played last night and bought in for 10 stacks = 100BB. Most bought in for 10 but some bought in for 1, 3, or 5 stacks
- One of the short stacks won the hand - but only got 240BB. I won the side pots and got 640BB. So even though I had the 2nd best hand, I took a 2.5 to 1 chip advantage heads up, and again all in and won the table.
- Had they bought in for 10 stacks, I was toast.

Study your opponents hands before choosing your discard.
- Say what? You SEE YOUR OPPONENT'S HANDS BEFORE YOU DISCARD! I was shocked.
- I was dealt KdTh6d. As I looked around the table I noticed almost no other diamonds were in play and no one had a 6...so I made the decision to discard the Th v 6d to give myself a chance to with diamonds. As it turned out, I made a 7 high straight being the only one with a diamond. So use the info in front of you to make better decisions. You are against up to 9 other hands - the best hand pre-flop will not always win.

We cut a field of 250+ players down to 31 in 5 mins and all were in the money. And - because most players bought in for 10 stacks, min cash was above $2.60 with a top prize of $36 bucks - or something in that range. Decent payout for around 2 and a half hours of work.

The interesting is after the normal play resumes, don't expect bust outs quick - everyone is within a few BB of each other with no short stacks so it really does play like a multi-table SnG from that point. No prying on short stacks that scraped in under the wire which I actually liked.

Overall this is a really cool innovation by GG and I applaud them for the effort. Be prepared to pay $0.20, $1.50, $20, etc for these and not the advertised 2 cent, 15 cent, $2 dollars, etc - you'll just set yourself up for an impossible climb to win your table, and don't be surprised if your pocket aces pre-flop lose. Remember you are against 8+ random hands.

I guess, there is some element of skill in, which card you choose to discard. But basically an all-in shootout is just a casino came disguised as poker. So I dont think, this does anything good for serious poker players. Its a great money maker for GG Poker though, because 8 out of 9 people finish the tournament within a few minutes. And then they are ready to "put another dollar in". So its basically a rake machine, just like when the popular Spin n Gos came out several years ago ;)

It's not really a rake machine - they run as scheduled MTT's so it's not like a Spin where as soon as you bust you jump into the next one. From the surface it's just like any other MTT but you are right that there is a casino element to the all in flip portion. Even if you guess the best hand...you may still lose out.

wish they just added classic sngs there instead :(

This ^

Can you imagine if they ran a promo of regular SNG's, but with 1/2 price rake? And some 18man's & 27mans.

Thanks for the info. Chris. I need to spend my free tickets and having no clue how it works, I now feel I have a fighting chance when I give it a shot (I hope I don't get hooked ;) )

That might be true. But its still a fact, that 8 out of 9 players are done with the tournament in a few minutes, whereas in regular tournaments the non cashing players might spend an average of 1-2 hours, before they bust. So it still shorten the duration of the tournament very considerably, which allow people to play more tournaments and pay more rake.

The same can be said for turbo games, but this format is taking it to an absolute extreme. Winning players will have a way lower ROI than in normal tournaments, and as a result less money end up being withdrawn from the site. Great money maker for the poker site, but a really bad format for serious and winning players. The only worse format, which exists online, would probably be those BLAST Spin n Gos on 888 Poker, where normal action stop after 2-5 minutes and in replaced with forced all-in action.

They meant well, the format may be fine, perhaps not. It's absolutely a waste of time and money for me

In one hand that you saves a lot of time by playing this kind of games but in other hand its pure luck to get through even when you bought 10BB. I played 3 times and all 3 times I had trash hands. Just for fun you can play it but nothing serious

Exactly. If you are just looking for quick excitement, you can go in the casino section, open up a roulette table and put some money on "black". Its essentially the same thing :)
