Steps SitnGo's, does anyone have any thoughts re strategy?

1-2 Ticket for Next Step
3-5 Ticket for Same Step

I've just started playing them but I like to play tight, just picking up chips here and there, and once were down to the last 5 I'll pretty much let loose trying to be a lot more aggressive, figuring I have to pick up the chips and getting knocked out at that stage doesn't really matter!

I had just started playing the FTP Steps when they shut it down in the US. I really liked that format. At the time I had a couple of Step 3 tickets. I was trying to build up to the entry in the wsop main event. I would also use the tickets to buy in to other tournaments.

Anyway, your approach is similar to mine. Once you have secured at least a ticket to the same level, you can loosen up a bit. Loose - but not wild. Remember that in a SNG tournament, there is tremendous value in even a single player getting knocked out. So if you're "ITM" and have someone all-in with a caller and you are sitting there with JQo, get out of the way.

I believe the stakes change the higher up you go, right? At the higher levels, you drop back a step or two if you don't finish high enough.

The steps are great but outside the Hyper Turbo 6max (which only advances the winner to the next step) they get little to no traffic usually but are a great way to try and satty into other tournies. I wish they were more popular but main traffic on FTP these days are mtt's and rush cash games.

@blue_fossil: yeah as you move up steps there are certain placements which will drop you back to the previous step.

you have the same on pokerstars and the traffic is good.

ftp vs stars
3.30 - 7.50

thats a big difference really and although it cuts out the 8.7$ ftp step to get to a 26$ step on ftp vs the 27$ step on stars it in essense means you should have 2.5x the br to play them within brm and remember there is no $$ result added to your br from them unless you use the ticket for a larger mtt (and cash) or get high enough in the steps to where hitting the step ticket bubble pays enough $$ to show profit from the games and for your time.

Also ftp I think because of having the lower initial step $ start and the 8.7$ step2 has a better pay structure in regards to tickets, step 1 on stars for example top 2 go to step2 while 3rd gets 1.5$ back....on ftp top 2 gets a step2 and 3, 4, & 5th get a free shot at step1 again? I prefer the ftp structure when you consider you have to climb all the way to the top for any resemblance of a cash prize (which on ftp the final step is a cash payment) while on starts its usually a live event package which has some cash payment but tends to be only top 2 spots paid as opposed to top 3 on ftp.

All in all there are many things I prefer in the ftp steps vs the stars steps that certainly distinguish them as not being the same but quite different in many aspects.

Also I don't think there is anything special about the step traffic on stars either tbh, although its a hec of a lot better than on ftp....and think steps are a great way to get into large tournies for a small investment but they certainly get to be tough as you move up the steps most of the time.

i believe, the main goal is not to lose and get to the 3-5 place!) If u"ll repeate this stage few more times - its not a problem. At least u'll get more rakeback))
