I have recently been in games where i've had a great run with my hole cards but after 3 or 4 raises, I find I'm getting called with all sorts of hands. Lost a pot that I raised x4 BB with AA one caller shoved all in with AJo I lose to a flush blew out my stack and I couldn't recover. This is one example That comes to mind but this has happened enough for me to notice a pattern, and I've started to fold good starting hands if I think people are going to feel me out. This stratagey doesn't work at the thick end of a torney where the blinds are way up.Is my game to predictable? more bluffing & a wider starting range or are there other stratagies I can employ. This only happens as much it would to anyone but it is an area of the game I would like to be able to get ahead of the field

Well, I would suggest to look at it from your oppositions standpoint. The fact that you had a good run of cards is irrelevant if they don't see the cards. They'll just think that you are very aggressive. If they think that, then they will assume that all your hands are not premium and will make some looser calls against you. Maybe start taking some different lines. e.g., if you bet your flush draws with aggression, try just check/calling. Or the opposite. You'll want to trick them. But DON'T bluff. At this time, they think your hands are weaker than normal, so you don't want to scare them away. Use your image to your advantage.

Hope it helps...

Also, you don't want to be scared of losing. There should be a feeling of satisfaction when you "get it in good." So, don't be afraid to really push your big hands. Sure, you'll lose 1 out of 5-7 times with your AA, but you're going to win 4 out of 5. There's alot of variance to poker, so just play well and get your money in good and you'll end up winning in the long run.

A similar thing regularly happens to me.1 or two limpers,i wake up with AK,AQ ,raise 4 times BB,one of the limpers calls the raise.I know hes got junk,i miss the flop and its more likely to have connected with his cards, then usually get bet off it,after they have made an awful preflop call:(

If you're shoving with AA and getting called down with AJo ur obviously not being seen as tight, most of the lower levels do not notice much past their own cards so I wouldnt worry about that. You should never fold AA preflop against less than 2 all ins, past that it can really just go either way, no hand preflop is ever the nuts, if you're getting it in with AA against one player you arent doing anything wrong. What you should NOT be doing is limping with AA and getting 5 callers. You're just saying 'please, crack my pocket pair that I don't want to raise with and scare you off.'

Its pretty much all been said, but I agree, AA is a shove hand. Sure, it gets beat, but in the big picture, its worth shoving on- I had a tourny once where I lost half my stack with pocket Ks, but it was my fault for not folding after the flop showed an A followed by big action, and went out with pocket As, lost to a flush draw. It happens. Last night in a ring game, I was dealt pocket Ks twice and AA once. I raised healthy pre flop to get the junk hands out, and won all three. I think in the big picture, with proper playing, like NEVER slow play these big pocket pairs among others, play em aggressive, it'll pay off.

I have seen people getting knocked out of the tournaments with AA too many times.Sometimes they would raise x4 BB or more, get called and get knocked out.Once,I knocked out a player who didn't raise at all when he had AA.That's why I go All In immediately with AA whether I have 1.000 or 100.000 chips.

AA is not the best hand there. It is the best hand before the flop not after the river.

But to go all in with AA ... not my style. Tough i will raise 1/5 of my stack at the begining of the tournament or the 4.5 BB when blinds are high enough to scare someone. I raise the same with KK, QQ, I almost 95 % i will have the best hand preflop. If someone goes all in i will dance with him. Anyway no good player will go all in if he is not pot comited. He will reraise , check or fold.

Is that correct? Im pretty sure that i read that even AA only wins just over 30% of the time?

that is only the case if your aces are up against like 7 - 8 other hands

HU your aces are a favorite in the 80ish% range - but not the nuts

sometimes shifting gears can change the whole game outcome for you.
If you sit at the same table for some time, they will start feeling your play, so you "must" change gears to be profitable.

Just my $.02

I fold big hands easy but not until the turn and depends what site I'm playing at. Certain sites AK or KQ or big cards will hold out over the run of community cards. Other sites Aces come readily( like Full) it would depend on the bets of the others in the hand.

My concern also. Usually play tight early on and sometimes fold good hands and reraises after the flop. It seems like other players figure it out, and take advantage of the tight play. I like Pokerstudent's thoughts. Players don't see your cards, so don't be overly concerned. I think sometimes our imagination can be a detriment to our play. Play solid, mix up your play, and let the villians try to guess figure out your play.
