I played my first live tourney last night at a local casino and Jesus Christ it is a completely different kettle of fish. Even though it was a freeroll + registration fee with rebuys and addons, I set myself a limit of my buyin, 1 rebuy and 1 addon, I literally just couldn't win a pot. No raises were being respected and maybe I respected other players raises too much. I was raised out of a pot when I held 88 with two guys going all-in preflop. An 8 came out on the flop and I would dominated everyone's two pairs and easily been in the top 8 chip stacks. After the break, I wake up with 77, one guy goes all-in preflop and I call. He turns over ATo, the board rolls out 22Q3 and he spikes a T on the river. I am pretty much on tilt and it is getting late and another player goes all-in, I look down at AQo and think this is a hand I should be calling with. The other player has me covered so I call, and she turns of JJ. Neither hand improves and I lose two back-to-back coin flips. Properly frustrating and completely eye opening as to the difference in skill from playing the micro-stakes online to playing seasoned live players.
Even though I sucked last night, I will definitely be going again next month.
