This weekend I got talked into playing my first ever Big-O tournament.

it was a $200 buy in and I figured I was dead money, and just entered for the experience; but I ended up min cashing for $500 in a 82 player field.

OMG!! It was so much fun and I'm totally hooked. all I want to do is play Big-O now and it's really hard to find. Also, I really want to learn about it but I can't find many resources online. The closest thing is learning PLO-8 strategy but it's not quite the same.

I'd absolutely love to discuss Big-O tourney strategy with anybody who has played the game....even if you are just a PLO-8 player I'd love some tourney tips.

Now, I really want to go play the $230 Big-O tourney at the Nugget in Las Vegas when I'm down there this spring for the wsop, but I'm afraid my showing this weekend was just beginner's luck and I want to learn more about the game before I play again.

anybody?

Bankroll management?

I am bankrolled to play up to $1,500.

My comfort zone is the $200-$500 range.

I am a live tourney player with backers...$200 is pretty mundane stakes for live tourneys. In most reputable tourney series the only thing cheaper than $200 or even $300 is satellites.

But, if you must know I also swapped 25% action with the player who eventually won the tourney, which enticed me to play since I knew he had a great chance of running deep.

What on earth is Big-O in relation to poker. A form of omaha i'm guessing if close to PLO-8 so you have peeked my interest as to what exactly it is.

It is PLO-8 with 5 cards

Only 8 players max per table

Pretty much the whole deck is in play and much bigger hands take down pots. 2 pair rarely takes the high.

It's super fun, super action. It's like crack....addicting. I don't think I'd have the stomach for it in cash, but tourney style it's a blast!

I wish I could find an App or online calculator but no luck.... If anybody knows of one...

Also curious about general starting hand guidelines.

It seems to me that you'd like to have 3 cards to a wheel and 3 cards to broadway, preferably double suited this increasing your chances of scooping. Obviously you need an ace to accomplish both.

I wonder if, when you're short handed you should favor big cards since they are more likely to scoop.... I played 4 handed for quite a while on the final table bubble and lost about 1/3 my stack to blinds when I maybe could have played some big card hands...
