Just finished 24th after almost 7 hours.... managed to make it through 3000 entrants and almost 4000 rebuys. Not a bad pay. About 10 dollars an hour, which isnt that great, but good experience. I played well.

I was wondering if anyone knew of some good articles on Mid to late tournament play. I often seem to find myself getting short stacked and end up shoving quite a bit, which is nerve racking.

I also seem to have a tendency to get a sizeable chip stack early on, then have to watch it fluctuate up and down, up and down. Is it because the quality of player improves as one gets closer to the end of the tourney?

Any ideas?
Anything to share / help?
Anything to read?

"Winning Poker Tournaments - One Hand At A Time" Vol.1 & Vol.2 (Vol.2 is 'after bubble play'... but for sure read Vol.1 first).
If you haven't read Harrington On Holdem Vol.1 & Vol.2 NLHE Tournament play.... you should probably read these first.

Look around for 'stack size adjustment articles' (not just "M" stuff... I'm referring to what we're trying to do when we're sitting on varying stack sizes... ie. when we're sitting with 15-25 bb's.. we're looking for spots to resteal & just put the pile in over a LP raiser (or someone who's been opening ALOT of pots). MTT regs. these days seem to be calling down VERY LIGHT though to resteal shoves... I've gone out many times getting 20bb's in over a 2.2x rs.. with stuff like AK.AQ,AJ, 77+.. and getting called by QJ, QTo.. even iso shipped by K8o. Player reads are real important!
Tony Dunst has some excellent articles on playing varying stack sizes in MTT play.

wtg on the cash!!

OP- if you seem to get shortstacked in the money a lot then you are not being aggressive enough prior to the money.

Attack the guys that are tightening up and folding to the money. abuse them mercilessly.
ALso, if you get a big stack early, don't be afraid to use it... and possibly lose it. If there is a +EV spot don't back off it just because yo u have a big stack.

And yes, getting a big stack and having it not move much is pretty common. People do stop just handing out the free chips after a while.. or you went card-dead... or you didn't use the big stack as a bludgeon. Could be any of those...

thanks for the advice! I was thinking earlier that one of my problems is getting a decent stack then losing it, I was worried I was becoming too loose. Anyway Ill try to track down a copy of the books/ articles and keep plugging away.

i didn't think of that one, but you might well get way to loose with a massive stack and just slowly bleed away.

It only makes sense to open up with the early massive stack if people are letting you get away with it.

If they aren't having it....just wait for some hands to come- or antes to kick in and stacks get short.
