Hi all, I play live tournaments at my local casino and I am frequently earning my place at the final table. Normally the top 6 get paid but I always have problems winning or getting in the money. I mean I have finished In the money twice but only 5th and 6th. I need help getting that extra mile and maybe winning the whole thing. All advice is appreciated, thanks.

Let's start with this - what is your current final table philosophy? What is your operational principal? OH, and how big was the field before the final table?

I dont have a specific philosophy but it depends on my stack size during the final table, if short stacked i tend to double up as quick as i can and play fairly tight, but if i have a large stack of about 200k+ with blinds at 3k - 6k i tend to be a bit loose and try to many bluffs. what would you say the best strategy is for the final table, loose aggressive or right aggressive?

wait other players to determinate each other, and play aggresive when you are at button.(but always think before play)

bluffing can help you a lot..but u need to be carefull how you do it , and if your bluff works show you hand (if u can)...play with their minds :))...also try to play as less as posible hands , only the bigger cards and when you do , play aggresive

You have to know your table and observe what they do every hand. Pay attention to detail and you'll be fine.

At that stage of them game more than any winning some blinds and antes can go a real long way. If you spot a player tightening up a bit and not defending try to take advantage of some steals. Like others have said tho, play smart and keep an eye on the table dynamics. If other players are observant and they probably will be at this stage they may try to resteal from you if your move becomes to obvious. Remember this when exploiting, pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered. Don't become a hog.... Unless there is no butcher to stop you :)

Other than that, just play your best and base your style of play on the others at the table and the stacks you all have. You have the right thinking when you're short, try to get a good spot and double. There are exceptions to this tho. If a bigger stack is being reckless and potentially going to bust and you're on the bubble.... I'd hold back a bit if your short stack allows and see if you can slide into a payout.

Another thing to consider is not being too loose and aggressive with a big stack if the table is playing back at you hard. This can spell disaster for your chances at a win if your getting to far out of line and good players are fighting back. It can be hard to resist being the bully when you have the stack but you don't always have to take chances.

Good luck out there and go get that win!

At the final table usually all play very tight. You can try to play all the middling and small suited connectors

it is natural that at a final table it is necessary to expand the range, to know the main thing how to play with what you enter game

You are now at a point in the tournament where you have to identify every player at the table. Who can be exploited? Who is going to exploit? Who is tightening up just to climb the payout ladder? Who is going for the win?

You should have several characters wired by now, but some may be very new to you. Pay attention. What they are doing is way more important than anything you do.

Start with the two guys to your left. Can you steal their blinds easily or are they going to fight back? The two guys on your right - are they going after your blinds and how are you going to fight back?

Who likes to see flops, but can't take the pressure of a 3-bet?

I am not anti-limp, BUT I do not want to limp at FT. Chips are too precious to be tossing away in the hopes of the wheel of fortune landing on your number.

Chip stacks - who has what? This helps you anticipate action. You go for a blind steal from the hijack with weak holdings - oblivious to the fact the BB only has 12 blinds - and are surprised when he shoves on you. Well what is he supposed to do - let you rape him? Constantly keep track of chip stacks.

Position, position, position.

More than anytime in the tournament this is truly kick, scratch and claw time to bring in some chips so you can stay alive. You have to be alert and on your toes.

Everytime someone gets knocked out - reassess the table all over again because players will adjust their play - some subconsciously. Some will tighten, others will get looser.

To win a tournament you need to build your stack before reaching to the final table with your skill . you need to win those hands where you will feel that others will fold if you go all in or they are playing with single pair. You need to bluff your way to the top.

congrats on doing so well live, keep at it and the answers will come.
better to make one final table with top chip count than 3 final tables short stacked. That's the KEY. play more aggressive throughout with an eye to owning the final table once you get there.

The person who wins the final table really depends on player type. Type A) tight player focused on getting into the money who will take no risks, and Type B)Aggressive players that will take risks to win the tournament outright. Final table winners tend to take the most risks as far as stealing blinds, etc.

Well you said you play tight early after doubling up, use that to your advantage that you doubled up and exploit ur table image to have people thinking ur holding the nuts a few good hands then back off and be tight, become alil more aggressive around the bubble where even the good players may tighten up, once the bubble burst then back off the aggression and only bluff the short stacks, people with big stacks didn't get the stacks by not making calls...

It's often good if you use your late position to bluff or raise the others. Of course if you have a small stack its difficult if you should double up or fold. I would try to double up if I have good/very good cards. I would fold if I have bad cards but you should not be too late...

Using your position means to check out what previous players do and react like raising more than normal so that they fold and you get the blinds that are traditionally very high on the final table..
