I usually play 90 sng ko turbo tournies on Full Tilt. I have been attempting to make Chip Chop deals when I get to 3 players or less. usually only getting them excepted when I get heads up. I was just sitting here wondering if this is a good idea. Usually when you get this deep in the tourny the blinds are so high that is almost seems like a crap shoot, mostly all-ins pre-flop, very limited play post flop. Do you think it is an advantage to chip chop here, or should I keep playing till the end. Pay out for top 3 are 1st $576 2nd $351 3rd 252.

It depends on the blind sizes compared to the overall amount of chips left in the whole tournament. If every player in the last 3 is sitting with >8-10BBs then you should really be looking to chop and have a reasonable case to make to the other players. I think this holds even more true at the stakes your playing as well because a 300 dollar difference between 1st and 3rd is quite a lot, unless your somewhat of a balla and props to you if you are.

It also (in relation to j's answer) depends on how you think you will do if you play it out. If you're confident you can beat this guy, go for first. If you have no chips and he's better than you, ask for a chip chop. Personally, I didn't even know you could chip chop at those smaller MTTs - I thought it was only for big tournies. Seems kinda complicated too since blinds are so high in those turbos and you need to contact a support member. Would you mind detailing how you go about it for my benefit?

I think jmasterrich made a valid point about the stack sizes which determine the amount of skill vs. luck.

In addition, you have to consider your opponent - is he better than you or are you better than him. If you are better, then in the long run its better not to make deals, but this will also mean that your variance will be higher - meaning that the decision to take a deal should be affected by your bankroll.

actually on full tilt you do the chops with the people involved in the chop. no support is involved in them anymore.. at least in the smaller tournies.

Depeding on time and wanting jump into another I'll take a deal rather than grinding it out heads up. Most time people will take the deal at chip percentage to the pool. Those who haven't prefer the heads up experience.

fair enough, and I play to win too. But I am also am building a bank roll. At that point in the 90 p SNG's there is very little skill involved, and it is more like chicken then it is poker. My line of thinking is that if 1st place is $576, and 2nd place is $351. If I catch 2 bad hands I am in 2nd place with $351, but if I make a deal here I am getting around $490 garaunteed, that is + $149, but if the cards fall true and I win out right I am -$86. In building a bank roll that seems like a big variance in money to the outcome I have limited control over.

I think this is almost always player specific even with <20bbs if your opponents dont know what there doing in terms of stacksizes and is not widening there shoving and calling ranges i think it is a mistake to chop against this player.

However if you think that both of you are fairly similar skill level and understand short stacked play then its probably better to chop
