how sad...
not!

Last month was awful for me. Let's do better this time 'kay?

Goals:

1) achieve Silverstar status
2) get at least one coaching session, with a second at the end of this month or the beginning of March
3) make a video to get feedback from the SNG regs here at CC
4) profit? ehhhhh, better to lower my expectations on this one.

Good luck!

January was alright. I'm not broke!!! Still playing break even poker most of the time. If I could eliminate the obvious bad decisions, I know my SNG ROI would turn positive...

This month I will continue on my quest to take poker more seriously. I hope to start keeping notes, reviewing my play more, being more focused during play, and reading.

I will finish John Wenzel's The Everything Texas Hold Em Book & the NLHE section of Super System 2. I quickly read Doyle's book on online poker and was not overly impressed.

I would also like to get my hands on Harrington on Hold Em and this Collin Moshmann book.

I also re-registered for the FRC. Hoping to get to know some of the regulars here and learn a little about how to properly play this God forsaken mind-F of a game!

January was pretty much my worst month ever. Standard goals for February plus finishing off unlocking my year-end Ironman bonus.

Glad you've decided to be more focused this month. tbh none of Doyle's books are gonna be that helpful anymore, especially for low stakes SNG's. Moshman's book is good but you it will only get you so far - this thread helps you get the rest of the way. So welcome :)

Okay folks, last month I played 270 games (all of them were in the last eight days of the month actually) and I experienced the humbling combination of running pretty bad and playing pretty bad too. It's still not a huge sample size but I'd very much like that to stop  Here's my finish distribution, obviously it's only a small part of what could be wrong but maybe someone can point me into the right direction if I post this.

Lol if you describe cash games as horrible, I'd hate to hear how you describe SNG's by the end of the month!

But yeah, welcome :)

^ this. Unfortunately for us Super System is written for high stakes cash games, not low stakes SnGs.

Here's my finish distribution, obviously it's only a small part of what could be wrong but maybe someone can point me into the right direction if I post this.

Take all this with a grain of salt, just possible leaks based solely on that graph and I'm not exactly an expert. These are a few things that jump out at me.

#1 Your 7th and 8th place finishes seem way to high, you could be taking to many risks early on.

#2 Your 3rd place finishes seem very low to me, it might suggest you're not taking the necessary risks once the bubble has popped to build up that chip stack.

#3 Your 1st place finishes seem a bit low as well, this kind of works in with the 3rd place finishes, I'd want to see more 3rd and first place finishes and fewer 2nd place.

#4 To a lesser extent your 4th place finishes seem high in correlation to the rest of your finishes, I'd want to see you finishing 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 6th more than bubbling. Not really sure what the explanation is for this unless you're playing to loose on the bubble and then tightening up significantly once it has popped. If that is the case reverse that practice.

The concern for me here would be your proportion of 6/7/8 finishes which are pretty high. Maybe you need to tighten up in the early stages (what stakes do you play btw?). The 4/5 distribution I can understand as this is pushing on the bubble and this is where you need to be loosening up your game, albeit this is still high compared to your 1/2/3 indicating that maybe you're not entering the bubble stages with sufficient chips or you're simply running bad o the bubble. Once past the bubble your finish distribution between 1/2/3 is excellent.

In short pick your spots better early (maybe playing tighter) but once you get a hand then keep the aggression there. This way you enter the bubble stages with a sufficient stack to be a factor.

Good luck for February!

It actually could be the opposite of playing too loose guys. I've noticed in the $3 games, a lot of the players are actually playing a lot tighter. Part of this is due to the two worst months to play SNGs, December and January ( Dec. for clearing bonuses/ Jan. for players starting the year with new found energy) so the number of regs in the games would likely be a higher proportion.

What i'm getting to is that if you are having a decent amound of regs in the $3's, most of them will be playing super tight early. So if you are also playing a similar style, then we will actually bust out early (8th-7th) more often as the blinds are getting higher later than the norm. I definitely think it's a case of being a little too tight early, and possibly playing too aggressive on the bubble.

It's hard to actually pin point the leaks without seing a few hands, and also the 270 game sample size isn't huge, and your distribution will be skewed from that.

You have my email CJ, send hands whenever, i'm always happy to review them.

Also, for you 9 man STT guys, there's some software that i'm currently testing. I'll tell you more about it when the time comes, but i think it will be as good, if not better than SNG Wizard has been for the games. Pin-pointing leaks will never be easier, can't say much more, but i will certainly let you all know about it.

January seemed to be going well, but I ended up a little bit behind. On the plus side, I won a new laptop so I can play some on Full Tilt again (they stopped supporting my old system). I have about $5 left in that account and 500 points, so I'll see what I can do with that before I break down and transfer...

Goals for February:
1) Maintain Silver Star
2) Get some more posts up and join the freeroll club
3) Make good decisions (at and away from the tables!)

Happy February!

My sng goal for Feb - play sng's until I am $50 down then leave them again until March lololol.

Maybe volume is a problem for me - I only played 52 in January and had a $26 profit.

Back to the MTT thread!

1. Play 800 SnG's
2. Improve my hourly rate at $5
3. Go from silver Iron man to Gold.
4. Stick strictly to SNG's and finally move up to the $10's with 100 buyins

January was pretty much my worst month ever. Standard goals for February plus finishing off unlocking my year-end Ironman bonus.

Pretty much have the same month, even with the year-end bonus thing (clear about 80%too).

Was about to ask if anyone notice the big numbers of more tight players around, but i think this from wizz answer that.

My games are like this lately http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/9069/10221186.jpg (yellow circles, forget about cards)

I mean, 7 people from a 9 table is sick, and is a $5 buyin, so kind of wondering if maybe need to start looking around on other site, hopely is just the months.

My sng goal for Feb - play sng's until I am $50 down then leave them again until March lololol.

Maybe volume is a problem for me - I only played 52 in January and had a $26 profit.

LOL, in my case with $50 down will mean stop playing tomorrow LOL.

@Oz (or anyone that knows), if you make a little cashout from fulltilt it shut down your year-end bonus or can withdraw with out a problem because is apart (the no hit rake make me wonder that because is not in the cashier maybe not affect?).

Thoughts?

^^^^What does the #'s mean? On the left not the placement.

Anyway I'm subscribing:). Finished good last month. Woulda been better had I not stabbed at the $12 STT turbos. Still up over 15 BI's at the $6.50's.

Goals for the month:

1) Play at least ten STT turbo's a day, 25 days out of month(so I can reach IM silver again).

2) Play only two tables at a time until I purchase HEM(Prolly in 3 days).

3) Not move up until I have at least 1K games and 7%+ ROI.

4) If my BR reaches $400 more than $650(100 BI's), cash out for new computer.

5) Post at least 2 hands per week in HA thread.

6) Invest at least one hour learning for every three hours played.

7) Treat this period of my poker life not as a job, but as an un-paid/low-payed internship.

Good luck to everyone not at my tables ;).

Ugly but standard unfortunately.

Not really sure what the right line would be in the last hand - sure we hit two pair on the turn but Th isn't all that pretty a card for us given the potential for higher two pairs, straights and flushes. I dunno, I maybe check-call it for pot control?
