So I was platina a live small buy in tournament. I had lost two big pots (played badly, I consider these two banda the reason for my elimination), and was left with 10 bb, in the 500/1000/100 level.
The vilain had got recently to my table and started raising every hand for the past four times, with a 2.5x raise. In the SB, I was dealt AQo. There was a limper in MP and the vilain in the button raises 4.5x. The action came to me in the SB and I start thinking. I was in a delicate position in the tournament and was waiting for a chance to shove. This guy had started playing very loose, and his stack as just above 20bb. He had raised four times, and this was a huge raise. It seemed to me he was trying to force the limper out and steal the blinds. But I knew that if I shoved, he would pay the extra 6K and try knocking me out. Still, I didnt put him in a big hand as AA, KK or AKs, cause if so, he would want to play post-flop for value. So, he could have a pocket pair like 88, 99, TT or even JJ, and hands like ATs or AJs. So I decided to shove hoping for a coin-flip.
The limper folds and he instantly calls with AKo, knocking me out os the tournament.

I still believe the shove was at least a good move with my 10bb and the pressure rising in the 7-handed table I found myself. But my question is about the reading. Was it so wrong to think the way I did, not feeling this big raise as a display of a powerfull hand?

Thank you all!

I would probably shove every time in that position. Unfortunate spot to get caught in. (Over aggressive villain raising you in the button looks like a steal to me)

Good job recognizing that it was previous play that put you in that situation. I wouldn't dwell too much on the hand that knocked you out as I would reconsider the hands that led you to the shove/fold situation.

This seems a lot like Daniel Negreanu's "Small-Ball" technique, which involves a lot of aggression. True, the villain seemed to be extra aggressive and loose, but 4 hands is not much of a reading. Have you seen any of his cards which he raised with? 10BB is not extremely low yet, and i personally prefer to shove with pairs or suited connectors. I think i would have folded and hoping for a better position. In your case there is also a small chance that MP was setting a trap for the villain (i've seen this too often).

The thing to remember about hyper-aggressive people is that...

...they will always pick up a real hand when YOU decide to play back against them.

He is saying he has 10bb and the table is 7 handed with 500/1000 and 100 antes.

That means his tournament M is 4.5 (Assuming he has 10000 chips left after posting his small blind)

With an M of 4.5 at a 7 handed table you have 32 hands before you blind out. 16 before a double up puts you exactly back in the same situation.

What would you find to be a better shoving spot in the small blind?

AQ has better equity against a button open range of 77+,A2s+,ATo+ than 22+

On top of that 30% of the time you wont get dealt AKo+ 22+ in the next 16 hands.

I think it's fair to wager that it's either not much to lose or more to take

Have you listened to Norman Chad?

AQ is rags!!!

But given your position, its still a bad call when you realized the villain has raised huge. Why do you want to gamble too early with still 10BB. You are up against a pair and its a coin toss. If you were less than 5BB, then it makes sense but 10BB needs more patience to shove with a better hand. If you were BB, it would be correct shove.
