I played with a guy that had almost 90% VPIP during the beginning/middle stage of a $2.20 MTT today. Nobody punished him for limping into every pot so he ended up with a 30k+ stack by the time the blinds/antes creeped up.
He was really good post flop so he took advantage of the pot odds
and won a lot of hands with cards that shouldn't have been played postflop. He cracked AA with 24 off suit that just showed you how bad people were playing their premium hands against him.
That guy was definitely not a fish. He had 85-90 VPIP, but nobody would punish him with aggression so he would win pots with 27s. If someone shoved he would just happily fold and limp into the next hand. The guy dodged bullets and tough situations like the matrix. True legit LAG player.
So both TAG & LAG can work in the early stages. Then when you get into to shove/fold stages of the tournament you have a healthy stack that you can use to squeeze play others and make it to the final table.
