I'm just, wondering if in the first few hands in an MTT, if most plyers here come out aggresive or take a few hands to see how the different people on the atble are playing in order to find out how to play your position and get the feel for aggresive players who may be overbetting their hands....I like to sort of sit back and get a feel unless I've got a really good hand.

I am with your strategy Roland except when it is a Super Turbo and then things have to move faster.

Personally im a very superior postflop and hand reading player bc I played live cash for yrs, so I want to get into a lot of pots with fish...especially in position.

There are more fish at the beginning of an MTT than at any other time so.....

I play a lot of pots, but I dont wanna be playing really large ones without the nuts or effective nuts really.

I don't think there's a blanket answer as to how best to play the first part of MTTs. It can depend on various factors including but not limited to your normal style, your comfort level as you shift away from it, your ability to do so effectively, the tournament structure, the opponents you've drawn...

What I try to do is sit back and watch and learn about the other people at my table..
However this is change by a good run of cards. You have to play your preminum hands however the middle of the road type cards I fold..
But I have switch gears before in early stages cause a lot of players have the same strategy and I become more agreesive with my middle of the road type cards.

I try and give it a round to see if there are any maniacs then I open up a little. The problem with the early rounds is people think 'its only 50 chips, I can call that', and playing multi-way pots is high variance that you dont want in tournies.

Strategy has been working pretty good for me. Even in our freeroll last night, but later in the tournament...last fourteen players with some of our best in it....saw some pf our better players goin'g l;ittle nutes....all ins with 10-k unsuited and so forth...that threw me a]ff a lot....gotta check that out a little more, lol. Was in the top 10 from about the middle of tourney till that started.

I wouldn't make such a blanket statement. Rather, I'd suggest that factors like the stack depth and your ability to play a small ball-type game affect the viability of playing small high variance pots early.

Granted with hands that play well multi-way (pairs and decent SC), but others can leave you in tough spots early on. I'd rather wait a little and then get aggro isolating individuals.

I like to play tight early. Everyone wants to play pots b/c the blinds start so small. Unless I've got something good or I have something that plays well post-flop and can get in cheap, I'm folding. The blinds are not worth stealing yet.
