When playing tournament poker what range of hands do you usually call an All IN shove with? lets say in the first 10 minutes of a tourney............personally I dont like to call an all in shove early in a tourney unless I have like AA KK QQ or AK the least.... I just insta folded AJ ten minutes in a tourney, do u think its a bad fold?

Unless having a good read on the opponent, never call with less then aa and kk. You have no reason to risk all your chips early.

Cheers

Offcourse, if stacks are deep, and you play in early blinds - The range is AA, KK , QQ , AKs , and if you fell comfortable or player is donk :D JJ , AQs and AKo also are good to call , in my opinion.

Folding ace jack to an early allin shove is a nobrainer fold. The op has a huge stack realitive to the blind so he's got no incentive to shove light. Most likely he has some sort of pocket pair or ace king and doesn't want to play it postflop. Even with a strong read I would look for a better spot to take advantage. You didn't mention what stakes you are playing but the lower the stake the looser you should call. Tor example the 100k I wouldn't even consider any hand besides Aa or kk. At the dollar rebuyi probably would call with ace jack plus!

I would even fold AK.

During the shootout, I only draw with AA or KK, nothing else.

You got NO reason to play your night on a limped AK.

Let them shoot eachother out with any broadway and pay attention to the table when the game tightens up, you'll get them later.

Insta folding your AJ in an all-in is a good fold. I would even fold AK, the other guy would either dominate you with a stronger hand, or at the very best you'd have slightly better chances but not enough to risk your tourney life early.
Same would apply to QQ but I know its hard to put it down. Oh well, if it's a low stake tournament I guess you could go for it. That's what I usually do if the buy-in is less than a dollar.

For the first 10 mins I would probably fold everything unless an AA kk comes up, even with those I would not shove all in, depending on position will raise. Also there's not much to read within 10 mins of the game, sometimes there's players that shove all in with pretty much anything in their hands, I try to get most chips from these guys early in. I play them well on the button, sometimes If I get aa I would check if it's them versus me alone, flop comes and boom I flop a set , they check , I check then they bluff the pot by raising on the turn, I just shove allin and take their chips, then you would see them cursing you in the chat lol. Like I said you have to have a good read on the opponent before you can pull this off.

Nah when the blinds are low you can afford to fold hands like AJ and get yourself in a much better position to double up

Yup, AJ is a troubled hand. So fold when someone made all in. You will be dominated if he has AK. If he has pair, then he is still little bit ahead. Worse is if he has those big pairs like AA, KK and QQ.

Cheers.

you have to be aggressive at all times in a tournament, you have to collect chips quickly blinds go up and then complicate

First few levels you should approach it similar to a cash game but be much more willing to get it in with QQ+/AK. Even like 88+ AT+ if villain is a bad maniac. Unlike cash games where you can wait and pick your spots, in tournaments you have to take chances at times if you want to cause big damage. Facing an all in at early stage, AJ is a clear fold unless opponent is very bad or you are pretty damned sure you are ahead.

Don't feel too bad about busting early. If you're going bust at any point, better to bust early and move on to the next thing. Of course doesn't mean you should just go around gambling obvious bad spots.

i would call anything from kk and above. the time frame doesn't matter to me as its still the same game unelss you are playing with better players that are tight.

that's why a lot of times i wont call with qq unless the guy is on tilt.

In a $1 game I'm all in with JJ or better. Any higher stakes and its strictly AA or KK, and maybe not even then unless I have the guy isolated.

I'd also say it depends on who you play. If you play tournaments for money than it's obvious fold of course but if you play freerolls anything that's A 10 or better is probably a coin flip at worst

Early in a tournament, you want to stick around and survive to the middle phase. So in here, being tight is okay. AA, KK, QQ are automatic call to an all in. AJ is simply borderline for an all in call.

Goodluck...

The only time you would consider calling a shove with AJ is when you are SS.

Early in a tournament is a clear fold.

Good fold :)
