I always do this.
I get into satellites. People play like absolute fish, and they're easy to take advantage of.
Was in a satellite to one of ACR's big guaranteed tourneys. 1'st gets entry to the tourney, and second takes cash.
It was easy all the way to the final table. A few educated coin flips. Sit tight for a couple hours and we're final table.
I hit the final table sitting around 5th. My goal is to make a nice buffer above 2nd place.
To that goal I get bumped to last. So 6 to go, and I'm last I start pushing any ace or face.
Back to first.
Finally 2 of us left I've got 3 times 2nd places stack and my mind gets going like usual and I wonder if I even want the 1st prize.
Lack of confidence tells me take the cash so I've got something to show for my work.
So long story short I start pushing hands like 2 9 off and such and walk with the cash.

Don't know why I do it.

I play the live wsop satellites from time to time, and I wonder if I ever get near the ticket bubble if I'd end up trying to knock myself out so I get the 8,000 or whatever it is instead of the ticket. Unfortunately I haven't cashed in one... so it doesn't really matter either way lol

I did the same years back, happily took around $100 instead of going for the £200+ ticket. I dont play many sattys now but i think i'd opt to get the ticket if i had the chance.

How much was the ticket worth and how much did you get ?

there is no way to sell the ticket or something? if not it depends on your abilities. if it is profitable for you to play satellites to win 2nd places it means you are very good and would probably be better polaying those tournament entries you sacrifice. mathematically you pay a buy in which includes a prize you dont receive. so it actually costs you more to chase a secondary prize. i dont believe the differemce in level is so much bigger than regular tourneys. so if you dont like chasing an entry and want to chase cash go for regular tournaments whatsoever

yeah, I'd often shoot for the ticket although if the ticket vs cash is of close value I'll rather the cash .... say a 100$ ticket for first and 2nd gets 90$ cash in hand is better, 200$ ticket vs 100$ cash I'd be wanting the ticket I think unless I'm working from a small br in which case i should never have entered the satty.

there are ways on most sites to actually get cash or tournament $$ from satties. it s a good way to turn a 5,6,10 x profit in a relatively short time

What's more important to you, the cash or playing a larger buy-in tournament?

Some people only play satellites because fields are easier and they unregister and get T$

Threads reminds me of a time when I decided to do the same thing. I would have went for the ticket but it was already late and I would have been auto put into the next game which was already running. So I went for second prize cash instead of ticket.

There was only one problem. The other guy did the same. It made for an interesting game. I won ( or lost I should say ) and took the 2nd place cash.

ACR doesnt have tournament dollars? You could unregister and take them instead. If this is not possible I think you should go for the ticket which is obv of more value than 2nd place and take a shot at it. If your bankroll is suffering you should take the cash ofcourse.

I see ppl do that with the LIVE MSPT's... I guess if you can win multiple tickets, why not be up $4K+ before the tourney even starts? Some ppl love the Satty structure when the payouts are in the %20 range

If your bankroll is quite depleted I would take the sure cash 100/100 times. Take the sure thing.

You're right.
My bankroll was a bit lower than comfortable and I guess I over estimated my ability to secure a ticket in following sats.

I was in another situation similar to above.
There were two tickets available and then cash equal to about 85% the cost of a ticket.

After saying "I wont do that again..."
I did it again.

Could be wrong, but I'm a low/med level MTT guy.
Those cashes literally bought me hundreds of buy ins at the levels I like to play.

I'm old, and dying and have fun at these levels.
I'm sure I could hang at those levels but I have fun where I'm at.
Maybe another time though.

Depends what you want to do. You can use the cash you won and for other tournaments!

85% value of ticket..Im probably shooting for the cash option myself, especially if the satty auto registers or is tournament specific.

If you want to keep building your bankroll instead of going into a bigger tournament, I don't see what's wrong with that, can play more tournaments with the cash instead of one big tournament &I not even be sure if you'll cash.

I'd second this too, actually came searching if converting ACR tickets, like the Venom for cash is still a thing, hopefully it still is. I'd go for the higher buyin as well unless the cash is money that would be hard to come by on a regular basis.

no, this cannot be called a mistake, since you were not going to play the main tournament and, apparently, you do not have much experience playing in expensive tournaments. you took profit, which is a smart decision. get money here and now, but less than the opportunity to win more. both decisions would be correct, but yours cannot be called a mistake

Much prefer to take the cash, provided the cash is worth a reasonable amount for the time invested. Depending on the site the tickets are not really worth it.

Sattys are often great games to play, a lot of the time the players do not understand the icm of the structure. Why not take the cash especially if you do not want to play what you sattyd into.

Not on ACR - sattys last just as long as regular tourneys so it's not a shorter time duration to play - unfortunately.

It all depends on your bankroll. If the cash amount could be considered a boost to it, then it becomes a sure thing instead of taking a shot at a big MTT where nothing is guaranteed. But if your bankroll is healthy enough, then the ticket is what you aimed for in the first place !

Depends on how much cash and how much the ticket is worth. If the ticket is worth a lot more than the cash for 2nd place, you'll do much better over the long run by taking the ticket. If the cash is almost as much as the ticket is worth, it's not a big deal.
