there is a saying in live poker "beware the speech"
it is a wise saying, and I too, would have wanted to fold after the run-out and acting that you have described. But also, you cannot fold.
It is possible in live poker, through tells to be pretty damned positive you're beat with a set. But, they're still pretty hard to fold.
I got a river speech last night after I bet half the pot on the river with the 3rd nuts I got min-raised and then I got the speech. I tanked and never considered folding because the min raise was just too good of a deal...but normally I would always re-raise all in in this spot. Ultimately the speech caused me to just flat his bet and we chopped the pot. I knew that because of the speech I could never be ahead in this spot. I might be behind or we might chop, but I'm NEVER ahead.
BEWARE THE SPEECH!
