I was just thinking a bit and a question I wanted to ask came up. I was experimenting with donk leading in micros with hands like two pair, straights, sets etc and got mixed results, so I decided to ask Cardschat.

What is your opinion of the donk lead? When do you use it and what do you do if you are donked into? And what do you interpret a donk lead as?

There is a whole "Theory of Donking" (eg. Andrew Seidman - "Easy Game"). The funny thing is that donk betting "hides" the range of the guy who is doing it (sort of). For example, if you take 3 players. One does not donk and has Fcbet: 33%, second one donks: 50% and folds to cbet: 66% and the third one donks 33% and folds to cbet: 50%. Now, how much % of hands does each one of them continue with? If you do the math, it turns out that all of them continue with the same amount, about: 67% (so they fold 33% of hands). You can really figure out alot from stats of the player who donks, but from my experience donk leads by

* weak players typically signify weakness (especially if he donks alot, mindonk bets etc)
* aggro players/regs signify polarization (air/nuts)
* nits...we know what it means (NUTS!!!)

Some players like to lead with flush draws (they try to set themselves a lower price to see next card) and sets (to get more value, especially when thay can be outdrawn).

Recently in the micros i have been facing quite some donk bets in the early stages of a MTT, and some of them mean top pair weak kicker. What they are saying is I want to control the pot see a cheap showdown but I'm not folding either.
So be carefull :)

May be related. Apologies if I am digressing.. How different or similar is donk betting to blocking bet?

This is just one possibility. And it doesn't take into account what has already happened on the hand. For instance, UTG open-raises, gets called and then leads the flop. TPWK may be in his possible range if he's a maniac, but so are many other hands, and this holding isn't nearly as likely if he's a TAG or nit.
