Hi, guys I just started playin low buy-in torunaments, and i'm impressed with the results. So far so good. The question is can these tournaments boos my poker skills? People at this levels play kindda odd/predictable.

Well, if you are finding them easy, move up a level when you have made a sufficient bankroll.

The question I have is how many you have played at whatever level you are at. I've found some very good play at even the lowest level SNGs...sometimes. Play a hundred or more and see if you still find them easy.

Maybe you should play at this tournament more since you consider it easy. Build up your bankroll enough so that you are able to move up. Good luck.

I don't believe playing micros will help you at the higher buy-in levels because the play is completely different. IMO it basically just helps with patients and stamina. Good luck though.

Bankroll management is, or ought to be your first concern, as your bankroll builds & you gain more experience, moving up tends to be a natural progression.

Sure, you can learn and continue to work on plenty of skills at those levels.

Start by playing $2 SNG's until you have $500.

Then move up and play $5 SNG's until you have $400 or $1000.

Move up or down from there.

Try to watch the other players and see how they play a little different at the different levels.

FWIW I prefer the 2 table 18 seat SNG's.

small buy in match can also train you skill,if you can not play well in the small buy in ,then how you can make sure you can do the better when you move up,i think player must play step by step...

Well, the higher you go the less fishes you might encounter.
But yes bankroll management should be your priority.

I might have won like 600 $ or so but from those i have lost like 400 $...

I used more words but yes I agree.

I also should add you can mix and match. No reason when you move up you can't play both $2 and $5 SNG's, or $5 and $10 at the same time. A couple of each to help even out the variance and swings within your overall bankroll amount until you are comfortable and profitable at the new level.

You suggest $250 buyins for the $2 level? That seems high to me. I would say 50 BIs is ok for that level. Even as low as 30 would be fine.

No, even the tightest of grinder nit's will suffer downswings that could bankrupt you.

The point is to risking money that "won't" be a problem not money that "shouldn't" be a problem risking.

Don't think I've seen it phrased that way but no one expects to not to cash 20+ SNG's.

Once I somehow managed through tilt and frustration and other factors to go on a 30+ BI downswing (yikes!)

It will boost your skills... but dont expect to become better at cash games by getting really good at tourneys... completely different animal to beat.

And I would bet you bust a few times.

It's standard to have a 20-30 buyin swings both ways, its called variance.

Depends on your skill level.

Personally I play with 25 buy-ins and I do fine, variance is understood.

If your beginning at a stake, or if you just simply do not match the skill level at that level, yet, then yes I agree something higher like 30-35 buy ins.

50 buy-ins I guess is acceptable only if you're playing at tables not located in the micro, or low stakes filter. (ends at 100 NL)

All depends on the mood I'm in and if I have the time to play. I just love to play but of course the higher the pay-off the better.

It depends what games you play, if your playing games with 9 players you could try going with a more aggresive BR plan if you can accept you might have to move down a level when your bankroll gets too low. For mtt or multi table sngs you should have a bigger bankroll brcause more players usally means more varience. You will hit a downswing at some point and then you will need some buy-ins to fall back on so I think having 50 - 100 buyins is a good plan. Maybe not at the lowest stakes but as you move up personally I like the idea of having a larger BI just because you will get to a point where you willl have to adjust your play.

Someone once posted a buyin/ruin ratio in table form--such and such a percentage chance of ruin at 30 buyins, at 25, at 20, at 15, and so on. Does anyone have access to that chart?
