I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Any time I build a big stack quick ~10-15min in online. I have found people to call me down with anything. It's nice when you have it, but ruins your chance to take a pot with a busted draw. Anyone else notice this?

Can`t say I have but, in general, if people are calling too readily, tighten up your hand selection; sit back and trap them.

Yes, they see you as an ATM!
You need to know when to slow down once you have it built.
The blinds are rising and people are looking for chips, if your always sticking them in there they will be calling with a chance for them.

Getting a big stack early is the booomb, you can play tight until you pick a fish off sooner or later.

Play more tight and be aggressive when you have the right opportunity. With a big stack you can dominate the table with the right moves.Be calm.

there it is in a "nut" shell you got that big stack by either good cards or lucky draws...but that always stops and if you continue to play middle of the road hands you will lose them chips...so when you c you have 30+ BB's it's time to wait for them big pairs and Big A's and sit and wait like they say....fold,fold,fold...you have no reason to play without really good cards....not a peeing contest out there, protect your chips

also you got the big stack by taking out the got to go crowd, and the i don't care what happens crowd and the i'm here to gamble crowd and the i got to get the big stack early crowd(they push with anything) and after 15 minutes all that is left is the "i been folding and waiting, i'm playing to win" crowd...so you should realize the rest of the tourney are poker players

Disadvantage? not really more like an advantage. Use your stack as power. Don't always call every hand coz you like em. Value your hands and try to trap or even fish with your opponents. Stop calling those all ins in preflops. If they know you play with good hands you would control the table and can make some bluffs with your stack. If you have good hands show them then decieve them in later in the games. Cheers :D

early bigstack in tourneys is no disadvantage but you need patience cause the tourney is at the beginning and its a hard way to come to the final table or places.

tighten up ur play. have some patience.
i like when the chip leader sits at my table because its usually easy to take advantage of their loose play.

I dont think its the other players, Royal Flusher said it as good as I can...even though I rarely play tourneys...it seems almost all the time when I sit down at a 1/2 NL game and get up early, not talking doubling or tripling up, but getting a nice 50-100$ cushion in the first 10-20 mins or so I more frequently wind up having a losing session than when I struggle a bit early on...I think most players have a tendency to get a bit cocky in that situation and this causes the problem.

this was my problem when i first started. as soon as i got chips, i think "i can start to live a little" and starting calling with rags in my hands. sure, its nice hwen u hit 2 pair with rags and noone expects it and u take them down, but more often than not, ur draws are cracked wide open. I play my big stack like i play my small stack now. Tight until blinds or big cards, thats it imo.

If you have a problem with a big stack, just start raising preflop for half your stack. When you finally get a caller or raiser just fold. That way you don't have to worry about having a big stack anymore :).

Or you could continue to play poker, where if people are calling you down light bluff less and value bet thinner.

That would indeed be optimal. The only downside I can see is that you might get investigated for chip dumping. But then you can direct the investigators to this strategy thread to explain why your unconventional play was actually strategically correct. :D

More seriously, remember that in any hand, the relevant stack size is the smaller one. So even though your stack got big, it does not allow you to play more speculative hands like we do in deep stacked cash games, because you still don't get proper implied odds if villain's stack is not deep too. So loosening up is usually burning money.
