I have always played MTT and SNG with 9 players at the table. What are the main differences in strategy with 6max? Increase your rank, play more hands? If any player of 6max can guide me I would be grateful
9 max you need to be significantly more aggressive pre-flop as a norm. The Rank in MTT will increase your tilt....I almost never see chip leader and close party show up at final table when they were leading mid-stage or early stage....there is no rank. Same thing for average it doesnt tell you anything look for mean and median. Just focus on keeping a 30-40BB stack with the blinds and you will do great.
looser and more aggron on 6max because the blinds come faster and you should steal more.
tighter on 9max because you have more time to get better hands before the blinds come to you.
also i think form button and cutoff at 9max you can be looser than at 6max because thoes good positions are comming less often so you can profit from them more.
You get to play more hands because you have the opportunity to open more and the close action with a call. It also means that with 3 less opponents, the anticipated quality of your opponents hand becomes lower. You also get to play against the same 5 people so you will get to figure out your opponents playing tendencies faster.
In the 6-player tournament, we have to be aggressive beyond the normal, recommended mode for those looser players who play with a wider range of hands than the usual in a 9-player game commonly played by tighter players
One tip I heard a while back is that your UTG range in 6-max should be approximately the same as your MP range in 9-max. This is based on the number of players between you and the button.
In 6 max there is less variance than in sits of 9 players, you range of hands should increase as well as the aggression, it is easier to take reading of the playeres, since there are only 5.Many times i have stayed in HU without having won a hand, because the players kill each other .
I recommend you play 3 or 4 tables at most.
