Ive been in a number of Tournys and SNGs, mainly in the range of 1-5$ BI. I know the "Book" says play tight till mid-tour, and I mainly do. But I make my notes, and one guy went all in on J-6 os, A-4 os, K 10 suited, and K 9 os. This is at the beggining stages, maybe 30 hands in. He was winning these all ins, and others going all in with good to similar hands as describe above. (and I was folding to them, except twice, not against him tho, with AA and KK - took em both) Anyway, I had A-Q os, in LP, and it was call or fold so I went 4xBB - BB at 150 and im at around 3000 - and he was BB and went all in. Well, I look at notes, its him and me only, and I called him, he had QQ. Was I right to make this call at this stage, or should I have waved goodbye to my 600 and waited till later to play aggresive. But against an aggresive thinking player, I would probably have folded my AQos, depending on his play up till that point. he was calling all ins and going all in with such donk hands, and of course no more As... Dumb move this early, or right to push back??
And on this note, I can read all the stratagy books I want, in tournys, at least the buy ins I do, people going all in A-4 os, etc, and I see pockets of 3-8 os, 4 10 suited, early positon, all this stuff that the pros say FOLD FOLD FOLD. How do you play against players that play that way??

How do you play against players that play that way??

You use your reads and make a decision based on your estimate of the opponents range.

Based on the opponents range AND if the opponent hadn't slowed down in the recent orbit or 2 then I'd make the same call. At these levels this is typical play, more so at the freerolls, and you just have to deal with the extra variance.

You see this at the lower limits always. FWIW I would have called. When I play lower limits I see as many flops cheap as I can then when I hit they will pay you off. Not by the book but it works for the lower limits.

AQ looks pretty but it's not a premium hand.. You ran unlucky into a huge hand ,but even if you caught him with 32o or 72o -> He will win 1 out of 3 times against AQ/AK. It's not a good idea to gamble for your full stack with AK/AQ preflop unless you have less than 15BB left.

Two things occur to me here:

1. It's bloody annoying when you notice a weakness in someone's play, pick your moment to cash in and they've either got a hand or they luck a crazy straight with rubbish.

2. Occasionally I have been that person - I fail to bluff someone off a hand with K3o and catch a king on the river. 'Donk!' someone shouts, 'all in with K3!!!' A few hands later I get a premium and know that if I go all in to a raise I'll get a call with AQ etc. because AQ has got me down as a donk.
