$400 2-Day $100K CPC Kickoff. 30 minute levels and $30K starting stacks, 15 levels to play on Day-1. I came in about 1-hour late.
Hand #1 (Level 3 ($150/$75))
This was the 3rd hand I was dealt, and received
from UTG +2. With a 200B stack I opened raised to $450 and received 5 callers including the blinds. This wasn’t a huge shock and I knew I just had to fade some very standard ranges.
Pot - $2,250
Flop -
After it was checked to me I bet $1,300 and got 2 callers including the small blind who check/called. I was confident I had the best hand, though I would prefer not to see a club on the turn.
Pot - $6,150
Turn -
Again it was checked to me and I decided to value bet in that spot and bet $3500, the small blind called and we were then heads-up.

River -
I tried to size my bet carefully as I obviously wanted a call and bet $10K. The small blind called without much hesitation and said “nice river” as he mucked – yeah, I don’t know about that – did he really have a set all the way down, or even JJ – no, I don’t think so – I should have made him show, but oh well.

I 3-bet JJ to an earl position open raise – he called and check/folded when I C-Bet the AQ3r flop.
My stack was $58K at that point.

I was on the button for this hand. There was an UTG limp for $800 and a call, then a middle position raised to $1,400 with $35K behind (though I have no idea why – this sizing is terrible IMO). He received 2 calls before it got to me on the button and I knew the early position players were both going to call as well. So, I decided to flat the $1,400 with a speculative hand,
As expected, everyone called, including both blinds, and 8 players went to the flop.

Not a terrible flop for my hand, but extremely dangerous. Anyway, it checked to all the way around to me. I thought about betting, but knew that would fail to get 7 folds and elected to take the free card.

Turn –
IMO, this was a terrible card for me, but most of the players in the pot had already lost interest. They checked it back to the hijack seat (same player that raised to $1,400) and he bet $3,300. After which everyone started folding.
I didn’t figure him to be very strong – he either smashed that flop or had air. I thought I was ahead with a pair of nines, although I don’t think I want my draw to hit, I thought I could float the turn and take this away on the river – so, I called with plans to steal/re-evaluate the river.

River –
Not the greatest card, but I applied the same logic here after he checked to me – he either has Q10 or a hand I can get to fold. So, I bet $15K – he called fairly quickly and showed

Hand #4 Level #8 $500/$1000/$100)
It was folded to me in the cutoff where I had and opened to $2500. The button, a player who had just sat down maybe 5 hands prior, 3-bet to $6,500. I decided to 4-bet as I felt he was just the type of player to think I was stealing his button and 3-bet light, plus I’m not folding AK here. I 4-bet to $17K and he 5-bet shipped his $30K stack – I called and he showed JJ.
The flop was aaj – it was hard for me to believe that I needed help there, but I did, and I didn’t get it.

From the hijack seat I was dealt
There was a middle position open raise to $3200 from a player that was just kind of a station. He had already min-raised several times and was playing fit-or-fold and was mostly folding. I decided to 3-bet and did so to $9K.
The button, who had just sat down (and is a mega-station that I have played for years) started agonizing over his hand. That went on for about 30 seconds before he grabbed $9K of his $30K stack and flat called. The original open raiser folded just like I thought he would; but I was in trouble and I knew it.

**** – I totally bricked it. I knew the button had a mid-pocket pair, I would have bet my life on it, and I didn’t figure him to fold this flop. I checked and he insta-moved all-in. I folded and he showed 88, LOL.

Hand #6 (Level 11 $1000/$2000/$300)
From UTG +1 I was dealt just a couple of hands after the A9 disaster from above. I opened to $4,500. The action folded around to the small blind who started staring me down (as if that does anything – nonetheless, I know this guy, his name is Dave, and he’s ok, I guess).
I obviously I was begging for a 3-bet and he didn’t disappoint as he went to $8K with about $110K back. (BTW, he got a big stack from a pretty decent run several levels prior).
Then the big blind flat called the $8K with $26K back and started staring at me. This guy was a results orientated station, there’s just no other way to say it. One time, earlier in the day, he folded 99 pre-flop to a raise and a 3-bet. The flop was 922 and man was he pissed, “I would have flopped a boat”. Another time he had 72o and a similar thing occurred.
Anyway, the point is that he was a station that is simply looking to catch – I immediately thought mid-pocket pair for him – and since I have queens, that’s real good. I was already 4-bet shipping to the small blinds’ 3-bet and the big blinds’ action just sweetened the deal.
So, I 4-bet shipped it and both my opponent’s called.
The small blind turned over and the big blind turned over
Yahtzee! I don’t think it can get much better; I’m 60/40 (61.23% according to Equilab) for a 60BB stack with 4 levels to go in Day 1.

And, the blinds chopped up my stack. How the big blind got there with his stack and hand I have no idea – it was terrible how he played it with anything short of AA – then he picks up the nut draw as a reward, sigh…
Anyway, that was it – my day was done!
