So I just entered a free roll tournament so its not really a big deal I am just trying to get better for bigger ones but anyways it was in the early stages of the game, I was in it with about 400 people and I got pocket A's so I raised to 200 and some guy called, So after the flop the cards were 8,K,Q so I was still feeling pretty good but this other guy raised so I re-raised him all in thinking I had the best pair (unless he held pocket K's or Q's) well the turn was maybe a 4 and the river was a J, so I felt okay but he showed a K/J so he won with his two pair

I was just wondering weather I should of done something different or if it was just bad luck…What would you guys of done?

There's far too many unknowns here for the good players here to give you any actual feedback.

What were the blinds? Reads? Has he been spewing?

For example to show the importance of knowing the blinds, if the blinds were 25/50 then yes your raise is decent enough (look to size pre to 2.5-3BB) however if the blinds were 10-20 then you open raised to 10BB and pre is played god awfully.

Fill in some of these unknowns and we would be happy to help

If I read this correctly you pushed all in and he called with single pair then he caught a jack on the river. This is whet you wanted; just got unlucky! Keep at it looks like you played it fine!!

The fat chance of the river being a J. Pretty low, so I think this is just a case of bad luck. When you say it is early I'm going to assume, correct me if I am wrong, your chips stacks probably were average maybe but not huge, so a shove really isn't a bad option, but unfortunately, he was holding a J.

Agree with Jblocher1 - far too many unknowns - would add both your table position, the suits on the flop, any starting hands the other player had shown down, where you were in the tourney - your stack and his stack, you rplay over the previous two rounds (- example had you been caught in a bluff), number of hands both of you had been in during the last couple of rounds.

ouch sorry bud.

thats what happenes in freerollls. im not going to say that you made the right pre-flop raise but you had the hand the entire way.

try not to get upset about those, they come and go as quickly as they fill up.

well Max, no chance against this guy because once he hit the K you were not going to fold him anymore, so just bad luck he got the second pair in the river, actually i think if you shove preflop he were going to pay still, so these are the hands that no matter what, you are going to lose, not your fault just bad luck, i think i would have played in the same way than you, and sure i would tilt too, but this is poker and is just one hand of a freeroll, so more chances to come, good luck next time

I could answer that question just from reading the title of the thread, without even reading your actual post. There is always something that you could have done different. You could raise more pre-flop, bet more post-flop. Different is not always better. And what works best one time may not work at all the next.

That being said, I don't think there was any way you were going to get him out of the hand after the flop. He had top pair with a decent kicker. A lot of players are just going to go to their grave clutching those cards rather than fold them. He just got lucky and caught a card on the end. It happens, quite often, in fact.

As people have mentioned they can't tell you if you played it right as they don't have enough information to help you.

These bad beats will happen, so the best thing to do is not dwell on it. If you do go over and over a bad beat it puts you in a negative mood for the next time you play. So shake it off and play your A game.

GL @ the tables :)

The blines were 20/40 in the early stage of the tournament. Thanks for the help guys.
Do any of you been in a situation where you folded A's on the flop ? Can you give me an example where I should fold A's Q's K' when the flop show 3 under cards because I just find at very hard to fold a high pair.
