First, this is play chips but before you start talking bad about playchips just wait for a second, In tournaments (500 -600 players) with decent buy in the play is a lot better than you would think it would be for tournaments when you reach far into the blinds.

okay, when I play tournaments I reach the cash then I bust with maybe double my buy in. that sucks, hours of play then I get a measly double my buy in and considering I actually am using bankroll management its not worth it, imagine a tournament with a 10k PC buy in and I cash to get 20k, its good and all because its better than losing but still 20k when you have a million PC means very little

The only good thing is that every once in like 20 times I go cash I will go far and hit that final table and just crush it (honestly, this because of play chips, most people who reach the final table are just one time hot streakers and do not know any final table strategy)

Anyway, back to the problem. I can't reach the final table that much and that due to my strategy (its the best I have at the time)

my strategy when I cash is to try to take as many chips as possible and take more risks.

My reasons why I do this:

I legitimately feel that if I am the huge stack when the there is 10% of the field is left then 80% of the time I can make the final table and and in every final table there is a 50% chance of me getting to the top 3 (mainly because the final tables are soft)

That means that I have a very good chance of taking a position where the most money is made.

thats great and all but 19 of 20 times I just double my buy in, (thats assuming that I have cashed and I don't cash every tournament I play)

is the strategy working? Yes it is.

Is the strategy working well? NO

I need something that can get me to final table more, since thats when I fill I have the best edge over my opponents but I also need a better than average stack when I get there.

any advice? or anything you do different or do you have a completely different strategy that works well? (you don't have to be specific you can just give me a broad idea)

anyway, its late and I will be in be going to sleep so I will try to respond by tomorrow

trying being more aggressive before the bubble bust, especially in hand for hand play(real money), i've put people all in, with trash all the time when its bubble time.

Example: you got a guy that raise from third seat everyone, folds to your bb, you call, ck flop, he bets you put him all in w/ two unders(okay it doesnt matter what you have), if he has a decent stack, and their are several dead stacks, he doesnt call. Im sure ive made opp fold top/top in this situation. Important tips, you must have your opp outchipped, and if he calls-it wont leave you dead stack thats it. After a few of these steels your opp catch on, but by then the bubble burst so if your still ck raising, its now for value, and youll be paid off.

Another tip when you say risk, do you mean, you make loose calls, or loose pushes. I not a fan of loose calls, loose pushes to take the blinds all day, or a rereaise-push cause you suspect the but/co of steeling okay(all pushes usually done when m reaches 8 or lower, resteels usualy at m of 15 or lower, regular poker play before that.) also when m is not at push ranges, im a fan of the min raise, to take the blinds and antes, you dont have to suceed much for this to be profitable(note some of your min raise will be for value=more profit) hopes this helps

A while back I had a conversation with a cash player here named zachvac. Him being interested in the way that I play due to his mainly cash playing history we had an interesting conversation about your exact situation. The conclusion we came to is that just min cashing isn't enough, which is what you are saying, and that you must go for the WIN or DIE!(obv get knocked out, not fall over dead lol) Anyways what I mean and it is similar to what kingsin said above is that you must stay above the curve of tight scared money opponents. Heh, I do this all the time playing in turbo rush mtts with huge fields. You have to constantly out play and be aggressive. Steal, re- steal, picking your spots.

Basically take advantage of other players just looking to cash since there money is "scared" and take advantage of there leak to build a stack. It's obviously not as simple as it sounds but with practice and experience going deep you will adjust.

This doesn't sound any different from the RM tourney dilemma. Get into the money then take risks to build that big stack. Most of the time it will get you busted. Once in a while, it will get you very deep, even to the final table.

You complain about making double your buyin with your min cash after hours of playing. Um. Yes. Same thing happens in RM tourneys. But it's actual money, not play chips. (Sorry, but you are still playing for nothing, even if you get to FT.) Making a FT anywhere is terrific, though.

One question I have is how often you make the money. Is it more often than, say, 15% of the games you play?

It's unclear what your complaint actually is.

Think it's time to move over to real money or, at least, freerolls?
