When a tournament starts, we create a level 10 expectation.
We want to win, we play well analyzed games and we do not play chips off that easy.
When the tournament comes in the second part do you still play seriously or do you lose concentration a little and do a lot of things wrong?

:hmmmm2: Concentration always!

For me, if I can’t give a 110% of my attention on a tournament, then there’s no need for me to play

I find myself concentrating more the deeper I get in a tourney, probably because I have better reads on my opponents further in.

I do wrong things all the time. Even when i'm giving my full concentration. Usually I start relaxed and end up way too tense and concentrated the deeper I am. At some point, I will overthink something and fold the best hand. Come to think of it, this happens way too often... I will have to work on that!

I get killed in the middle of tournaments

Everything's fine at the beginning of a tournament. I steadily stack chips and get a nice medium stack toward the middle of the game. Then they deal me 10 10 and it's game over. Hate that hand sooo much.

Concentration is essential in tournaments, in the early stages to build a big stack, in the middle stages to maintain it, and later to make the final table. They are a long grind for sure. I can't understand how people multi-table tournies, listen to music, watch TV, etc. In my case, the deeper I run, the more focused I get. If I start to think that I can make the final table then I'm totally committed.

when you play poker you must do it when you really feel like playing ... that will help you to be totally focused on your game ... remember that a carelessness can eliminate you from a tournament ... never play poker if you do not feel like play or if you are stressed or tired because you will never be 100% concentrated and possibly end up losing ...!

My concentration comes just before the bubble. And after the bubble my concentration stays. It is not worth it to have so much concentration at the beginning of a tournament.

I sometimes lose concentration, but this is the most important factor for success, waiting for good hands and play tight, sometimes I play more hands than I need due to lack of concentration..

The closer the tournament to the end, the more carefully I play. I try not to lose my stack and do it.

Most of the time when i start playing poker i am fully prepared and concentrated maximum to the tourney. I always play 1 tournament at a time. I'm never tilting even losing a top hand pre-flop like AA. Concentration and focusing is the most important thing when u play poker. So before u even start playing make sure your mind and you are prepared to play a tourney. And to be honest my key of winning and successes are i'm never getting stressed out on my position, because always a double up can put you in the right place.

playing very tightly early stage of the tournament, I can give myself a little liberties in this very period of the game! on the onset of ante I start playing more collected and look for every loophole where you can steal the blinds! I use any indecision of the opponent! yesterday I played a $ 215 tournament here that I was concentrated from the first minute of the tournament! my working limit is 1-10 $

How can you lose your attention when half the tournament has passed. Spent a lot of time and nerves. Here you become even more attentive.

So good that your concentration improves.
I'm already starting to feel tired and I think this helps me get deeper.

Good game and good luck always!

you say that the concentration is needed, but you do not say how to increase concentration.
We have the craze to play poker and do other things at the same time.
Are not you one of those?
Try to play poker just in a quiet, quiet place, and try to concentrate as much as you can.
Try not to lose focus or concentration.
Analyze the hand, ponder, analyze your opponents, ask yourself why such an opponent is doing this or that.
Put yourself in his place and think.

We are trying to grow, are not we?

Good game and good luck always!

Best Advice so far, in my opinion.

when you play poker you must do it when you really feel like playing ... that will help you to be totally focused on your game ... remember that a carelessness can eliminate you from a tournament ... never play poker if you do not feel like play or if you are stressed or tired because you will never be 100% concentrated and possibly end up losing ...!

Best answer so far.
This is the best advice you've been given in your Thread yet.

That's my personal opinion.

To help you understand it....
I got off work today and came home after opening up the store at 6am this morning.
Then......
I downloaded a poker site that I have been meaning to get up and running.
Then I found, just by chance, a late registering freeroll tournament that was paying out the TOP 216 POSITIONS.
I enrolled in that freeroll 10 minutes before the cut-off for late registration ONLY TO PLAY ON THE SITE and become familiar with it's buttons, and how to navigate it, etc.

About 8 minutes after I got in the tournament, the tournament went on BREAK.
Late registration was over, the player count was around 300 or less.. I really don't remember the exact number, but I do remember looking right after the Break and was suprised at the player count because the top 216 places paid out money...IN A FREEROLL tournament.

I actually got to number 2 in chipstacks within 20 minutes of the game starting back up....the ACTIVE PLAYERS got down to 218 players.
PLEASE REMEMBER, the top 216 won cash money.

I DID NOT WANT TO PLAY A TOURNAMENT for another 3 or four hours so I went allin with 63 suited hand....and was knocked out in 217th place......1 spot out of the payout.

BUT....I didn't think it fair to sit there, end in the money, having been really lucky at getting to number 2 in the chip count, while other players had already spent 2 hours playing the tournament......when I had NO INTENTION of even trying to finsih it.

I was only there to try the site out and get use to it, on a snap decision to just join a tournament that was free, and other's had put in the time to make money. my getting knocked out put some poor slob in the money spot that had invested the time in to play the thing all the way out, when I had NO intention of doing it.

Sure, I lost out on 25cents US.......

big deal.

I was NOT in the mood to play, and I would have made the decision eventually to just muck on out anyway, because of being tired, and not interested.

Dailon has given you the best advice so far.
you have to REALLY feel like playing.
Or you may find yourself playing agains yourself, your own mind and self-endurance.

That's my opinion,
but I lose...A LOT!!

good luck on the tables!
Robert.
