Just thought I would start a thread for people to post common rookie tells I could observe in a live game

They will start paying more attention to what others are doing if they have a good hand.

I'm starting to wonder if "I'll show you if you fold" is a bit of a tell. I've heard this a few times at the table. In my experience often the person saying this has a good hand but far from the nuts. They don't really want to be called but they have something pretty good. I haven't heard anyone say this who is completely bluffing, has anyone?

Dilemma.

If you've devoted any time to a study of live tells, your game can be transformed, but you often have the problem of seeing your friends giving off glaring, unconcious tells and wondering whether or not you should help them by pointing them out. Bottom line is - you're all there to take chips/cash from opponents (even mates) and should use any advantage to its greatest extent. Few days ago, saw my mate demonstrate 7 massive tells in 3 separate hands (3 on same hand), which should have made his opponent run a mile instead of calling. Did I tell him what they were? Guess. :)

I'll show if you fold.

This one is highly situational and much depends on whether or not it was prompted or unprompted. If the latter, it usually demonstrates a weak hand; why would someone with a strong holding ever consider giving information to an opponent who hadn't paid to see it? If you ask "Will you show if I fold" the answer is largely academic, but how he answers is vitally relevant. Relaxed? Comfortable? If he remains quiet, ask "Do you want a call?" and get a read from that.

Most rookies like to act just the opposite of the real situation. So if they have a good hand they pretend a weak one. If they have a weak hand they like to bet the chips more quickly to pretend a good hand.

If the opponent throws chips in the middle, often a bluff, as if your opponent starts to behave like a statue with zero facial expressions that he has a very good hand.

Betting in even numbers.

Counting chips before a bet vs just sliding in a stack

Blink rate

To name a few

Eyes.....I find if they stare at the flop they missed a majority of the time. If they look away real quick, they hit the flop.

I find that rookies will most of the time tell you exactly what they want, reasoning double reverse psychology in their mind. So if you ask "Do you want me to call?" They will answer with what they really want.

If you pay close attention to the game, stay off phone etc, you will create a bit of an edge for yourself. So when the person who has been playing while absent (phone etc) suddenly perks up and puts the phone down and actually looks at the action on the table you may have a pretty good idea that they may have a good hand. Live tells are less about soul reading more about routine.

I think you have to be pretty experienced with live poker to actually pick out tells for good players. Someone may do different things in the same situation and mislead you.

I think "tells" are overrated, unless you're playing regularly with the same person and they do something unusual. Most of the time low stakes live poker players are just doing whatever they are doing at the time, no reason. The players you want to target are just there to have a good time and splash some chips around. You don't need tells to take those chips.

like asedu mentioned, in online I particularly watch for the check check shove/all in. I've found it really only means they have the nuts or a weak hand, and that just depends on their betting history. If they have been folding a lot, they probably have a monster. If they are loose, it could really swing both ways, and just depends on how often you have seen them get caught bluffing.
