So im not sure if i should be calling or shoving in this spot.

18 players left 11 get paid. I have about 15bb in the BB. UTG plus 1 raises to 2.2bb and it folds around to me with AQos. Is the best thing to do here just call or should i be shoving to win the pot straight up? The raiser is a pretty tight player with around the same stack size as me.

I feel like i can win the pot most of the time and being out of position i feel like this is a good spot to shove but also not sure if a passive call and see flop line is better at this stage in the tournament.

BTW. She ended up calling it off with pockets 10s and won the flip.

A raise UTG at that part of the game from a tight player is signal of a strong hand . You need to decide if you want to chance your tourn. life on a coin flip at that point . He wouldn't raise there if he wasn't willing to call all in . I would 've just called and try to improve before shoving . Good luck next time .

Sooth call and see the flop, if you don't hit then there is a chance to see the turn cheap and you are still in the tournament.

Difficult spot , it would be better if we have more information about the players after you. If they are kinda passive I would just call in order to see a flop and play in position against the tight opener.

AQ off is strong hand but I would prefer to 3bet shove against this type off player something like TT+ , AQs+.Also very good point from Pickat I guess the opponent wants to play for stacks at this point and that makes his UTG range even stronger!

ps. I think this thread would be more suitable in Tournament Hand Analysis section. GL!!

A raise UTG from a passive player is a sign of strength, smooth call or fold. And even if we get our A,we pot control, check flop, call turn, fold any river bets.

I also would not push in this situation, especially because you know, that you got raised from a tight player in early position. It is not worth coin flipping so near to the money. For me it would be a call in this situation, because you still would have left 12.5 blinds after this call when you not hit something on flop or improve on turn. These would be still enough chips to put pressure on other players in easier situations.

This situation shows the weakness of shoving, you take away ways to win the pot. In the same situation it would be a good call and see a flop. You could still get away from the pot with plenty of chips if you miss.

If you wanted to play for stacks you can still commit but show more strength with a raise in that position. While you have no intention of folding, you put the villain to a decision if you re-raise and the flop is KJ4, then you shove all in. In that situation 10's an other medium pairs shrink up a lot. Taking this route, if the villain has you crushed (AA,KK,AK, ect..) it really changes nothing in the outcome of the hand. If you shove you lost, if he calls your shove on the flop, the result is the same, but you have at least an opportunity to still push out hands like 10s.

I like your though process but can it be applied here with 15bbs? If the hero 3bets most probably the UTG opener will 4bet jam.Because as it was already mentioned the UTG wants to play for stacks.

Moreover how do you know that the villain won't lead the flop?

You could try and 3bet him pre flop. Try a small 3bet, then if he folds its a good take down with a hand that needs has to hit the flop to continue.
If he goes all in after your 3bet you can make a decision to fold if you think he is stronger than your AQo. And still be in tourney.

Call = All In

If you call or shove here with such a depleted stack, you are going to end up all in over 75% of the time. It basically comes down to a decision on whether or not to play to win (although going all in w/ AQo may or may not be part or your in-to-win strategy), or to play to cash. If youre playing to win and dont mind not cashing, then flipping AQo vs 10 10 is perfectly acceptable. However, if you want to cash at all costs, flipping isnt a good idea.

With AQ you are a very huge underdog to most hands that raise UTG. I would either call or fold there for sure.

Poker is the one thing that you do again and again and get a different result every time. The next time that happens you could flop gin with your hand. So calling and seeing a flop might be good here.

AQ is a nightmare hand as you always seem to run into AK AA KK QQ or are flipping with pairs JJ and lower good luck.

I Totally agree I was a bit surprise that most of the comment recommend a call here

if the objective is the top 3 of the tournament flipping is more than acceptable in this spot
