Hi guys, this is my first post here so here's to the start of a profitable relationship :)

I've been playing poker for about 8 years now, mostly cash, but after moving onto 180 player SnGs or deeper tournaments with 1-2k players i've been finding myself doing OK, but that's about it.

I'll lay out my standard tournament. I get plenty of chips, usually in the top 10 in 200 player sngs or in the top % if it's a larger tournament. I play quite well from there, and my strategy is fine, but it gets weak when we get to the payout positions. I'll end most of my tournaments in the lower payout brackets, without making any "big bucks" by reaching the final table. Most of my tourneys will progress like this. Is there a strategy any of you use to get yourself paid more? Is it just a case of holding out if i'm doing alright so far?

Thanks for any tips :)

I find this I often FT on stars also 200 ish 888 im in the mix come the end.,
In genural you find at the end of a tournament their will be a few tournament winning players (big cashers) who are usually in the mix. And they know you cant slow down,

The main problem is for me (this may help) Im thinking about the big cash and I'm thinking its ok dont panic maintain my stack and wait for a spot to come around.
But really to take down first you have to up the tempo and we know at this stage 3-bets and shoves are commen, so we dont want to open to many hands or 3-bet the bigger stacks,

I just pretend its a 9man sit n go - its not a tournament.
and my aim is to stay chip leader on my table from start to finish , if you can get that edge and your skillful enough to extract your value from the lags when your spot comes around which u probably are - you will be in the top 3 on ur table 90% .

Also when your intervening you send fear into your opponants and we are preventing them from hitting big speculative hands from taking away the calling equity from hands they would of played with a limp.
this means our villains have less chance of doubling their stacks and we maintain our edge,
although sometimes ther will be times when it cant be prevented

We have for example 5k field, 3000 chips on start (without rebuys). Do you know how big should be your stack on final table? Once I was wondering how big should be and I devised... you can compute it: how? look that:
[5000 (players) x 3000 (chips)] / 9 (possible players on final table)= 1 666 666 chips. Maybe it will help you to know how much chips you should have to be in top3, final table, top 100, top 200. You can compute average stack for every place in tournament. Sometimes you have to be very aggresive and sometimes you should lay back some spots to be on higher place. Otherwise I agree with cotta777, you should play table like 9man SNG, be bigstackiem. I hope that I helped you a little :) Take care.
