Just a quick question on chopping pots at the end if a tournament.

One of the places I play at constantly chops when it gets down to third place (well the players do) I personally like to play it out but it seems to be the norm here and I don't want to be "that guy" Thoughts?

id compromise, id say if you want to end now, lets split it 40% to me and 30% each to the other two.

the benefit of chopping is that it creates a friendly environment where fish are going to feel better about coming back and playing. the negative is you give up short term equity.

i think "not being that guy" is the long term play. but doesnt mean you cant ask for a better deal :)

It really depends on the tournament.

I've chopped once when there was only a guy and I left and we both had like 15 BBs, it became a game of luck, so we decided to guarantee our money since the difference wasn't that big. Another time I did it with 5 players left for the same reason, even though I was CL in both, a simple coin flip could cost me a lot of money.

If it is a well-structured tourney, such as freezeouts with longer blinds, a game still exists and if you are going to make a deal even though you don't want to, chop if you are CL or use ICM if you are shorter.
